Vehicle Description
1988 Pontiac Fiero GT
From the Spanish word the "fierce one," the Fiero was introduced to
the American market in 1984 as a gas saving alternative to the
Corvette. A mid-engine 2-seat sports car that had all the initial
problems sorted out by the last year of offering it to the public
in 1988. The suspension had been upgraded, and the GT version came
as a 6-cylinder 2.8 liter with a Getrag 5-speed manual
transmission, making the car finally what the designers wanted it
to be, a somewhat powerful, good handling mid-engine car, that got
good gas mileage.
On consignment is a truly original 2 owner 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT.
Odometer shows and is confirmed as 18,618 original miles and is
original down to the tires. Only new hoses have been added since
the cars birth, and everything is in working condition. Garage
kept, diligently maintained and run occasionally...for the Fiero
fan, this car is a find.
Exterior
Pontiac Fiero Red exterior paint for this GT version is in original
and excellent condition. Pop up headlights are on the front of the
sports car and keep a nicely designed aerodynamic line to the nose
of the car. Black trim races the length of the side panels, and
small black venting can be seen in front of the rear tires. A rear
deck with black venting and a red center, as well as a red spoiler
make up the back of the car. This car has the pop-up sunroof
option, and offset cross lace wheels, with 15 x 6 inch tires up
front and 15 x 7 inch tires on the rear.
Interior
A ribbed gray on gray tweed wraps the 2 bucket seats in the
passenger compartment and electronic seat controls can be seen on
the driver's seat. A gray/light gray carpet, and gray dash and
console, as well as gray door panels finish off the interior nicely
and add a nice contrast to the red exterior. A volt meter, and an
oil pressure gauge sit atop the standard climate control center
dash area. A switch for stereo boost, as well as interior lighting
and a "Formula" option 120MPH speedometer make up the
instrumentation cluster behind the standard Fiero steering wheel.
All surfaces, as expected, are in very good condition and show
little wear.
Drivetrain
The 2.8-liter V6 engine coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission,
puts power into the upgraded tri link rear suspension and axle. For
1988, the upgraded front suspension included control arms and
knuckles which reduced steering effort, as the car does not have
power steering. For this final year of production, new vented disc
brakes on all 4 corners were standard on the GT model.
1988 became the year when GM management finally listened to the
original designers and the various complaints and make the car
right. Particularly with upgraded Fiero exclusive steering linkage,
as well as drivetrain, offset tires and wheels, and better overall
balance, this car truly became a sporty, nimble, gas saving
2-seater commuter car it was meant to originally be. This example
is original and is ripe for the picking at the offered pricing.
