Meet Maynard, a recently restored series 1 1955 Chevy 3100
pickup, whose road-going performance belies its rusty old
appearance.
Rescued from its decades long resting place in central Texas, it
was summarily disassembled and thoughtfully rebuilt, resulting in a
great driving and reliable cruiser. The frame, a SOLID example was
stripped and coated with POR15 then loaded with a rebuilt Mustang
II front end with all of its double A-arm, coil over, disk brake
goodness intact. A Flaming River power rack and pinion steering
system coupled to a Flaming River tilt steering column and frame
rail mounted brake master cylinder and power booster deliver a
modern driving experience unavailable in 1955. The drive wheels get
a 1970 C10 12 bolt rear end for good measure. It rolls on 15"
steelies clad with bias ply white walls.
Under the hood is a nicely dressed up fresh 290 horsepower small
block 350 with an Edelbrock aluminum performance intake and 600 cfm
four barrel carburetor. High capacity aluminum radiator and
thermostatically controlled electric fan keep it running cool.
Stainless steel headers and dual Flowmaster exhaust add power and
sound. A rebuilt Turbo Hydromatic 400 automatic transmission and
B&M Quick Silver floor shifter tie it all together.
The bed was redone with a distressed look. The battery relocated to
the vintage cooler and the aluminum fuel cell moved to the
rear.
The interior is all new and fully functional, with a new wire
harness and five gauge retro instrument cluster. Ah oo Gah horn
lets everyone know how cool you are. A Bluetooth AM/FM marine
stereo looks cool and sounds good. Underdash Vintage Air system
blows hard and is ice cold. Door seals and window rubber are nice
and fresh.
The body has great patina. If there was rust it was addressed; the
dents, not. Finished in clear coat to give it a nice wet look.
Glass is all clear and windows roll up and down smoothly. Hi
intensity front beams and rear LED lighting. show the way.
Maynard is a crowd favorite where ever he rolls. With under 700
miles on the restoration, this truck is ready to show and go.
