Vehicle Description
Is there any sports car manufacturer that's remained truer to its
heritage than Porsche? The brand has single-handedly built an
86-year legacy out of performance-minded engineering while
designing some of the most endearing cars ever produced. And today,
as one of the most respected automobile entities on the planet,
they enjoy a tremendous following that's spawned a positively
gigantic support system. Introduced in late 1963, the legendary 911
kick started the marque's foray in to high performance royalty. And
with the advent of this highly optioned stunner, the company seems
more serious than ever about owning the sports car market. A true
driver's car, this 6-speed 911 Turbo wraps world class vehicle
dynamics in world class luxury. If you're looking for a cool modern
classic that's comfortable, sporty and virtually guaranteed to be
exclusive, this worldly coupe is just your style!
TAILORED APPEARANCE
A highly tweaked evolution of the 996, the 997 chassis allowed
Porsche to keep up with the industry trend of seemingly endless
refinement while perpetuating the brand's identity as a purveyor of
hardcore sports cars. Dressed in a classy coat of Basalt Black
Metallic, there's no doubt this 911 is both timeless and posh.
Judging by appearance, that paint coats a pristine profile that's
been meticulously pampered and carefully protected since it rolled
off Porsche's Stuttgart assembly line. Naturally, lighting is some
of the industry's latest technology, with Bi-Xenon headlamps
complementing LED indicators, LED running lamps and optional clear
LED taillights. A high level of fit and finish highlights a mixed
material body that prominently features weight-saving aluminum.
Painted spoilers include an extendable rear unit that automatically
activates at 75 MPH, or manually with the push of a switch from
inside the cabin. And overall, this awesome coupe sprints as one
premier performer that's an easy equal for the world's most elite
sports cars!
SMART POWER
Most enthusiasts consider the 911 Turbo the quintessential Porsche.
Maybe it's because Porsche has spent literal decades refining the
same proven design. Or maybe it's because the car is just very good
at what it does. We like to think of this 997 as the best of both
worlds, since it benefits from years of excellent engineering while
retaining the visceral thrill of its manually shifted forerunners.
That engineering begins with a 3.8 liter flat six that features
niceties like an expansion intake, forged internals and dry-sump
lubrication that's stewarded by an on-demand oil pump. Those
essentials are paired with Direct Fuel Injection, VarioCam Plus
timing and Variable Turbine Geometry that maximizes the twin fans'
efficiency. That set-up, standard on all 911 Turbos, is good for an
even 500 horsepower and an impressive 480 lb./ft. of torque, on the
way to a 3.2-second 0-60 sprint and a 194 MPH top speed. We
mentioned "standard" because this 911 Turbo has been optioned with
Porsche's much-lauded Sport Chrono Package. Increasing pressure in
the car's optimal boost range, the Sport Chrono Package adds 36
more lb./ft. of torque while simultaneously adjusting Dynamic
Engine Mounts to ensure smooth and precise power delivery.
Mechanically, there are no leaks or squeaks of any kind, and the
car's refined engine bay appears just as clean as the day it rolled
off the assembly line. And, best of all, the impressive mill
represents purpose-built performance that'll fire up in any
weather, drive thousands of miles before anyone needs to turn its
bolts, and probably lay waste to pretty much anything that's brave
enough to stage a challenge in a straight line or in the
twisties.
REFINED DYNAMICS
Under the car, wind-cheating panels conceal a roster of
technologically forward components. Quick cornering is achieved
through Porsche Traction Management permanent all-wheel drive
that's aided by optional Porsche Torque Vectoring. Speaking of
brakes, stops are a cinch thanks to power-assisted Monobloc
calipers, which push either four or six pistons against 13-inch
cross-drilled rotors. Those brakes cradle electromechanical power
steering, a fully independent sport suspension and Porsche Active
Suspension Management, which pairs Porsche Stability Management
with standard ABS. Stab the throttle and power spins through an old
school, row-it-yourself 6-speed that's finished with standard Hill
Assist. A dramatic soundtrack is provided by Porsche Sports
Exhaust. And everything rolls on forged Turbo II wheels, which
crank 235/35ZR19 in front of 305/30ZR19 Michelin Pilot Super
Sports.
A COMFORTABLE DRIVER IS A BETTER DRIVER
Inside this slick 911, it's all about a symbiotic relationship
between cutting edge European performance and traditional 'old
world' luxury. At the center of the car, heated Sport seats feature
16-way power adjustment for the driver. A French-stitched dash
hangs traditional 5-pod telemetry beside a prominent Sport Chrono
gauge. State-of-the-art Porsche Communication Management pairs
Bluetooth and standard voice activation with Bose surround sound
and GPS navigation. At the center of the floor, a full-length
console props an optional, body-matched gear selector on crisp,
fade-free carpet. Sculpted door panels front power-operated
windows, which reflect self-dimming, power-adjustable mirrors. The
driver spins a heated steering wheel. And throughout the inviting
cockpit you'll find the usual assortment of luxury and convenience
features, including HomeLink and standard anti-theft
technology.
