For Sale: 1973 Oldsmobile 88 in Concord, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

Such a well-presented vintage wagon is always in demand. After all, this 1973 Oldsmobile 88 Custom Cruiser Wagon looks like it never pulled family duty. That means everything you want is in place, including the cool electronic tailgate, air-conditioned eight-person interior, and its original big Rocket V8.

This is a fantastically presented wagon, and the proof is the Best of Class award from the 2016 Olds Nationals. You understand the reason it earned this award from the first impression. After all, most wagons were used-up from years as the family hauler. But this one was put into storage only a few years after its initial purchase. That means low mileage, complete panels, and great preservation. When it was purchased by the second owner in 2013, he invested in making sure this presents nicely. The result is the perfect mix of preservation and restoration. For example, factory-correct the Cranberry Red Metallic was given a modern respray, but the wood paneling (a must for a classic wagon) is original. So you've got a nice luster to draw in the crowds, and you get to still tell them that their favorite feature is a survivor. Well, the wood applique is everyone's favorite right up until you go around back and show them the disappearing tailgate. These premium GM wagons were known for making jaws drop when you turn the rear key lock, and the glass would disappear into the roof while the tailgate simultaneously disappeared into the body.

Inside is a mostly original interior that looks fantastic. Even the details are correct, right down to the storage well with jacking instructions. You get three rows of button-top burgundy seating. While both rear rows will fold flat for the ultimate tailgater, this is so big, you even have storage when all of them are up! The Custom Cruiser was an expensive Olds, and so you know it's full of luxury options such as power windows, tilt steering column, power locks, and cruise control. There's plenty of great wood-like trim to coordinate with the exterior, especially on the dash and steering wheel. In fact, that wraparound display is one of the interior's coolest features. After all, no matter how many people are with you, this feels like a personal cruiser with all the major controls right at the driver's fingertips. This includes the cold factory air conditioning, original AM radio, and even remote controls for that cool tailgate.

More great originality is under the hood with the tidy and numbers matching motor. To move all that sheet metal you need big torque, and the Oldsmobile 455 cubic inch V8 delivers creamy-smooth power that makes this car feel effortless in everything it does. Out on the open road that factory four-barrel carb opens up and moves this large wagon with authority. And the TH400 three-speed automatic transmission is always happy to cruise. So with other features like the power steering, front disc brakes, and modern comfortable Hankook tires, this is the right choice for those who like to drive their classics.

Something this special needs the right paperwork, and so the sale comes with the original warranty card, owner's manual, and service manual. A well-preserved wagon is hard to find. So when one looks this good, offers this much luxury, and is priced so right, you know you need to hurry to take it home. Call now!
