Vehicle Description
1929 Ford Model A Phaeton
Simplicity was the Phaeton's strength. As one of the lowest-priced
Fords, it was certainly basic, but the basic goodness of the Model
A design makes it special. In true late 1920's styling, a
convertible top, running boards, and 4 square doors, lend
themselves to "Phaeton" meaning light and airy carriage or vintage
touring car.
A finely finished rebuild, and many user-friendly upgrades, make
this 1929 Phaeton a treat to look at and fun to drive.
Interestingly, the car retains much of its original design, but
strength and performance modifications now put it into the class of
street rod.
Exterior
An all steel body, front fenders, running boards, and hood, painted
in maroon, shows lightly touched black airbrushed flames on the
front fenders. Rear fiberglass fenders frame tan rimmed edging
chrome spoked wheels and performance radial tires. Small re-chromed
vintage taillights blaze the word STOP when the brake pedal is
depressed. Original bumpers have been streamlined to chromed metal
piping, and the gas tank has been conveniently moved from its
original cowling position to the rear of the vehicle. Resting
between front and rear fenders, are chrome edged, and horizontal
ribbed rubber over steel running boards. Side engine cowlings have
been removed to allow the viewer to get a peek of the highly
chromed power plant and the polished stainless headers. The front
grille retains its original design and is adorned by large period
style sealed beam headlamps. Topping the car off is a canvas
convertible top which stretches the length of the passenger
compartment.
Interior
Tan, Black and minutely speckled color tweed sewn in a vertical
tufted pattern surrounded by black vinyl piping frame the front and
rear bench seats, as well as the door panels. Black carpeting
throughout the floor gives a nice contrast to the upholstery and is
in near flawless condition. A banjo style steering wheel attached
to a chromed adjustable height steering column is backed by a
full-length olive burl dashboard. A cluster of new gauges have been
added, as well as an AM/FM/CD player. The ignition switch is
located under the driver's seat, as well as a battery shutoff
switch.
Drivetrain
A 454ci V8 engine fed by (3) Holly 2-barrel carburetors, powers a
3-speed automatic transmission. A straight axle 4-link front
suspension is beautifully done in all polished or brushed chrome
and can be seen from the front view of the car and presents
beautifully. Rear suspension is 4-link coil overs. Both front and
rear 15 " spoked wheels have 205/60 R15 radials in the front, and
245/60 R15 rear radials. This Ford has been equipped with front
disc, and rear drum power brakes. A dual performance exhaust shows
polished chromed tailpipes peeking from underneath.
Extras and Documentation
Like new side curtains, with a canvas case, and a convertible boot
with a canvas case, come with this car. A 3-ring notebook of
receipts, manuals, and parts that went into this build is also
included.
This beautifully styled and upgraded Phaeton drives and sounds off
beautifully. Not your typical street rod model pick, seeing this
car in person will change your mind, driving this car will change
your mouth... to a smile.
