For Sale: 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza in Dover, Delaware

Vehicle Description

NOTE:  Sale Pending as of 11 May 2019

1963 Corvair Spyder convertible, VIN 30967W178848. This car is in remarkably good condition.  It drives and rides just like the 1964 Corvair Spyder I drove in 1965 (impressions can be really lasting!).  The powerplant is stock, pure Spyder.  The engine and turbo portion are in wonderful condition, and the boost is obvious when driving.  It is certainly not sophisticated by today's standards, but this was the first US-built production car to feature a turbo installation.  The stock four-speed transmission shifts positively and smoothly, and in fact is equipped with a relatively rare (for Corvair) Positraction rear end.  Clutch is heavy duty, and has a very positive feel to it.  Brakes are standard drums, and were recently and completely rebuilt.  Tires are  P185/80R,  and are in great shape.  Convertible top, and body paint, are extremely nice, as is the car's interior.  All instrumentation works, too!   Other than the windshield washer pump and the backup lights, everything else works - even the cigarette lighter!  This fine little car is entirely stock, except for the radio system.  Regretfully, no air conditioning.  The windshield does have a mar, but other than that, all glass is good.   It has always been garaged.   It is registered and tagged until Aug 2019, and the title is clear.  Also included are a number of valuable (and new) spare items for the car.  I'll include some invaluable original Chevrolet Corvair maintenance manuals that'll provide great information for keeping the car in the best possible condition.

This Corvair has been the subject of an extensive amount of expert rebuilding to original or better condition.  Numerous powerplant, transmission, and other drivetrain parts, as well as refurbishment of electrical, suspension, and brake components, have been rebuilt/upgraded in recently years to enhance the car's longevity and operating condition.  I have all receipts for all such work done.  To screen the receipts for that work, and components ordered (mostly from Clark's Corvairs), would take a half-hour or so - that's how extensive the record-keeping has been.

The words here don't adequately convey how nice this car is.  The photos I have included do help to do just that.  Not only do I have a very extensive number of photos besides those posted, but a couple of videos as well.

With all that, if this car is so great, why am I selling it?  As much fun as it is, it is - like any vintage car - demanding of time and energy to keep it in the condition I want.  What with all the other interests I have, I've found I don't have the time I would want to spend on the car to keep it where it should be kept - in tip-top, showroom condition.  So, I want to offer the experience of owning this wonderful car to someone with just such an inclination.

And now, for the "other" news.  I regret that I must make these stipulations, but they are because of having been "burned" in previous transactions.  Please note the price and conditions for sale:  The price is to be paid in cash or certified bank funds transfer only.   I will neither make nor accept any other arrangements, period.  Please note that I do not check email daily.  And, if I do not reply to an email, it is because someone has already made a firm commitment to purchase the Corvair.
