Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this very attractive 1973
Mercedes-Benz 280 SEL 4.5. Owned by a prominent California
collector from 1981 until the early 2000s, it lived briefly in
Connecticut before being sold to an Atlanta owner in 2004 where it
has remained ever since. This W108 is finished in code 387 Blue
Metallic over cream leather interior, a striking combination. It's
nicely optioned with leather, sunroof and A/C and has accrued
59,000 miles. Paint and bodywork show to a nice standard with
excellent chrome, moldings and trim - and no known rust. The
interior is correct and well preserved with very little wear on
seating surfaces, door cards and headliner. Cocoa mats were
recently added and bring a nice pop of color to the cabin. Very
nice wood.
All instrumentation, lighting and electrical accessories are in
working order with the exception of the clock and the Becker Europa
radio - the sunroof works properly and air conditioning has been
converted to R134a and is blowing cold. Heat and vent levers
recently overhauled and function as new (including backlighting).
The engine compartment is particularly tidy and reveals a number of
newer parts including hood pad, coolant hoses, A/C hoses, power
steering hoses, fuel pump and tune-up items - tires are also newer
and mounted on correct 14-inch wheels with matching hubcaps. Recent
tie rods and muffler. No known service needs.
This 108 drives well and is quite comfortable and poised at highway
speeds - whenever we spend time with a good example like this it
reminds us just how well-built and "put together" these old Mercs
are. Included with the sale are ownership history to 1981, service
records from the current and previous Atlanta owners, the owner's
manual, factory spare and jack. For more information about this
