Vehicle Description
1966 was a year of change for the Volkswagen Beetle. The beetle now
came available with an optional 1300cc 4-cylinder engine that
brought the largest horsepower gain ever seen on a beetle from the
previous year. The horsepower was increased by 25% from 40hp to a
factory 50hp engine. It sounds funny to read that today in the
modern horsepower wars. But no make mistake, This was big news for
the VW faithful. The 1300cc engine was standard on all the American
imported VW's.
What this car has going for it is the originality. It appears that
it may have been repainted at some point or a portion of the car
was resprayed because if it wasn't for some overspray around the
front bumper, you would swear it was the original paint. The body
is extremely solid with no bubbling present anywhere we could see,
although the paint does have your typical driver flaws. So there
are scratches and dings in the paint that are consistent with an
original paint car. Ultimately, the car shows extremely well and is
accented by a gorgeous cream interior.
Look inside the interior and you'll see just how well maintained
this car had to have been.Believed to be a three-owner vehicle,
this interior shows just how well-assembled these were from
factory. Volkswagen's weren't the cheapest, but they used
first-rate interior materials and have a charm that's lacking in
later bugs. The seats, headliner and carpet don't show any tears or
major signs of wear. Instead you just have clean bucket seats that
are a fantastic place to log miles from behind the wheel.
Glance at the underside and you'll see just how solid this bug is.
We've seen cleaner undersides, but we chose to keep it this way
because the floors aren't hiding anything, you can clearly see the
infamous battery patch panel that is so common with these, but
beyond that there is no evidence of any other rot anywhere.
The recipient of a recent tune-up and alignment, this bug is well
sorted and ready to be enjoyed!
