1978 F-150 4x4 Ranger
The sixth generation of the Ford F-Series is a line of pickup trucks and medium-duty commercial trucks that were produced by Ford from 1973 to 1979. These were the last generation of trucks to use the F-Series chassis introduced in 1965. This generation also marks the introduction of the F-150 which today is the most popular model.
This generation is noted for the body panels' durability as Ford used extensive amounts of galvanized sheet metal, zinc coated steel, zinc rich primer and fender liners, to fight corrosion. In 1976, the F-Series became the best-selling trucks in America, a position it has continued to retain ever since.
For 1978, the appearance of the F-Series changed the most since 1972, when the split grille was overhauled in favor of a single-piece grille insert design. Much larger than before, the grille no longer incorporated the headlights, turn signals or the "F O R D" letters. The headlights were located in housings beside the grille, and the park/turn signal lamps were located below them.
In 1978 models, the round headlight design was retained for the Custom trim level. Also new for 1978 was the option of part- or full-time four-wheel-drive on SuperCab models. Full-time four-wheel drive with Posi utilized a chain-driven NP203 transfer case, while part-time four-wheel drive was equipped with a gear-driven NP205.
We have one of the nicest 1978 Ford F150 Ranger 4x4’s in the country for sale here at Class Vintage Exchange. Ours is a south west truck with no rust. It is extremely clean. Great paint and body lines, no rust, with a 460 engine and a 4-speed. This 1978 is a rare Short Box and the paint looks fantastic. The truck looks as good as a new truck just off the factory assembly lines.
The engine is the stout 460 cubic inch with plenty of torque and horsepower and even air conditioning. v. It sits in a very clean and detailed engine compartment that also looks factory fresh. It runs quiet and strong. No smoke and no surprises. The Transmission is a T-18 4 Speed manual and the Transfer case is the NP205. Brakes were all recently gone through and it also has great B.F. Goodrich Mud Terrain Tires and polished mag wheels all the way around its chassis which has a performance 3” lift kit with new shocks, springs, and assorted hardware. This truck is turn key and ready to hit the road.
The black bench seat interior is as new including great fitted carpet kit, door panels with custom speakers, arm rests, dash, headliner, premium seat upholstery in factory Ford sew pattern, steering column and steering wheel, weather strip, restored sill plates, Ford Floor Mats, revised radio system, and more.
The exhaust system is newer large diameter tubing into duals out the back which emit a great sound from the 460 engine. It has Power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission, the transfer case operates as it should, as do the locking hubs. newer battery, serviced cooling and charging systems, belts, filters, fluids, oil, etc.
It also has great chrome front and rear bumpers with a custom front grill guard/winch mount and a Smittybuilt XRC8, 8000 lb. winch with roller fair lead and a tow hitch mounted in the rear. The bed also has a bed mat.
