For Sale at Auction: 1977 Suzuki GS550 in Uncasville, Connecticut
Brock Yates was a rebellious automotive writer, commentator and
magazine editor who was best known for creating and winning the
Cannonball Run Sea-to-Shining Sea race. He later wrote screenplays
for two popular Cannonball Run-inspired movies, and had several
appearances on TV, in movies and on media outlets as an automotive
expert. At various times, Mr. Yates was a race car driver, the
editor of Car and Driver magazine and the best-selling author of
more than 20 books. His need for speed did not just include cars;
his first motorcycle purchase was in 1978 when he bought this
Suzuki GS550 motorcycle. He would learn to ride and eventually test
for his license on the bike, which he kept until his death in 2016.
Purchased from his estate by a longtime fan, this bike has all of
the original documentation proving its provenance. It is powered by
a 550cc 2-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission
and is in excellent condition with just over 3,700 original miles
(title reads mileage exempt). It comes with all of the
documentation, including registration paperwork, title work and
miscellaneous other paperwork.
