This is a 1957 Austin FX3 Taxi Cab, right hand drive, with a diesel engine made in England. This is a RARE find here in the United States. From what little information I could find about this car it seems that there were just over 7,200 of the FX3 Taxi Cabs produced in England between 1948 and 1958 and likely only a handful of them made their way over to the United States. I can’t say for sure, but I’d guess that there might only be a dozen of these in the US right now. It's difficult to even price this car because there’s so few of them to compare it with. I would actually welcome anyone who knows anything more about these cars to provide me with whatever insights they can.
This car is all original and had been maintained and was operational and driven in parades and what not between the early 1990s to as late as 2006. It has also been stored in a climate controlled garage since it was purchased in 1987.
The body is in pretty good condition and with some fresh paint and new upholstery this would make an excellent prop car for a mid century period piece set in London.
