Vehicle Description
1954 Kaiser Darrin
Classic Auto Mall is proud to present for sale one of America's
rarest and most stylistic models of its period, the 1954 Kaiser
Darrin. Designed by Howard "Dutch" Darrin, the car was produced to
compete with post war European Sports Cars that American servicemen
had fallen in love with during their tours of England and Italy.
The Darrin was the first American car to be produced with a
fiber-glass body and made for just one model year, 1954. The unique
design of the car was encapsulated by its sliding driver and
passenger doors, not seen before or since on a production-based
automobile.
Just 435 models were built not including the 6 test prototypes.
Only four colors were available with this one being the Pine Tint
lacquer with matching seat coverings and brown carpet. Power comes
from a 161 cu in engine producing 90 hp through a 3-speed
transmission with an overdrive gear.
With a purchase price of $3668.00, the Kaiser Darrin was more
expensive than the Cadillac or Lincoln models. The Kaiser Darrin
offered is a stunning presentation of the model. The Darrin appears
flawless from every perspective. The car is ready for Concours
events with little to no preparation. This Darrin was awarded its
AACA Senior Badge at the National Meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania in
October of 2008. It scored 190 out of 200 at the Kaiser-Frazer
Owners Meet in 2009. A once in a lifetime opportunity to own one of
the American auto industries' rarest sports automobiles.
