1967 CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY SPORT COUPE ~ Sorry, She SOLD!!
I discovered this Beauty at a Car Show and have been chasing after it for some time. This, being a 1967, is one of the Last Fastback Mid-Year Coupe Corvettes in this bodystyle (no fastback windows were offered again until 1978). The Coupes outsold the Convertible's yet, only 14,436 were made that year....and, only 15% were made in 'Marlboro Maroon' (incredibly most were not 'Rally Red' but, 'Goodwood Green' !). It has Black Interior (Std) / Headliner and is pretty much optioned out with really nice features: It has Power Steering & Power Disc Brakes, the coveted 'L-79' 327/350hp, with hi-Lift Cam, 4-Speed and 3:55 Positraction. Then add Vintage Air Conditioning, Soft Ray Tinted Glass, Side-Mounted Exhaust (N.O.), Big Block Hood (despite build date hood being possible, we think 'added'), Orig. Delco AM/FM Radio, Bolt-On Aluminum Wheels (N.O.), White Sidewall Tires, Headrests, and Floor Mats. This car drives out like new and has excellent Paint & Interior. It is complete with Original Owners- Manual, Showroom Brochure and, the 'Holy Grail', the original matching Protect-o-Plate*. It just arrived, and I don't expect it to be here long, as it's Everything One Hopes To Find in a Mid-Year Vette. The photo's pretty much say it all on this one.
The Story:
Funny, as the 1967 Corvette is one of those cars that just was 'not suppose to happen'. Chevrolet had Big Plans for the all new Gran Sport Style Corvette which had been on the drawing boards for some time. But, production was repeatedly delayed with numerous construction problems. It is said another reason was poor Aero Dynamics pointed out by, the man himself, Zora Duntov. GM wanted the 3rd Generation Vette to be the perfect Wind Tunnel example. Others say, GM didn't want the 'new' Corvette to steal the thunder from the soon-to-be released 'Mustang Killer', the 1967 Camaro. The modest changes resulted in the super clean lines and The Best of The Bunch- 1967 Corvette Stingray. The Hood Script, and Fender Flags were removed while the 5 Small Fender Vents replaced the 3 Large Ones, the Back-Up Light was moved to the center of the car, over the Lic. tag, and Safety Regulations replaced the optional Knock-Off Wheels with modified Aluminum Bolt-On Wheels. Newly designed Interiors boasted the elimination of the Dash Grab Handle, which was featured on all Corvettes since 1958. Door Locks moved forward on the door panels. and the Parking Brake was moved from under the dash to in-between the bucket seats ( a Corvette 1st!). The Rocker Panels got a smooth design and 'Rally Wheels' became Standard equipment pushing Hubcaps into A Thing of the Past. Conversely however, Hardtops got a whay seemed like a dated-looking Vinyl Covering while the 'fad' for vinyl cladding continued in popularity. One tiny change; GM added 'Blue Chip Decals' inside the doors that said "The Mark of Excellence". The results are clearly heralded as 'The Best Looking Corvette of all the Mid-Year Models". Remarkably, sales don't reflect that ! Showroom sales ended-up 'down' in number by 5,000 units from 1966 and only 22,940 cars (Coupe & Convertible) were sold in 1967. It is written that the expectation of a 'wildly designed' new model was also responsible. In my past 28 years in business, I have reccommended this car as one of the Very Best investment (pound for pound) in a Classic Car. Priced to sell @ $89,500 FIRM SOLD SOLD SOLD
