Vehicle Description
Lingenfelter Performance Engineering has been designing and
building high performance modifications for GM cars for a long
time. They know how to do it, and they do it right. This Camaro SS
is a shining example of how their work transforms a car.
If you are starting with an SS Camaro, even before you perform any
upgrades, you have an awesome car on multiple levels. It looks
great from every angle. When people see the bold grill with its
Chevy Bowtie and wide stance coming toward them, they know
immediately that it's a Camaro. But then they notice that this
one's a little different. It's got a cool hood scoop and cool blue
and red stripes. But if you know cars, when it gets close enough to
see the Lingenfelter and SLP (Street Legal Performance) 585 badging
on the hood and fender, then you know how potent this car is. It's
like seeing someone walking toward you that looks familiar, and
when they get close enough, suddenly realizing that its your sports
hero. It's a subtle but powerful presence. You realize that the
hood scoop is functional. That the stripe was sprayed on only after
block sanding the hood smooth, painting on the blue and red and
clear coating over it. Suddenly, the rear fenders look even wider,
and the whole car looks more serious.
Open the door and you will find the well laid out interior of a
Camaro SS. With one addition. SLP and 585 has been embroidered
above and below the stock SS embroidery on the front seat
headrests. The seats themselves are comfortable and supportive in
black cloth. The steering wheel is a beefy and leather wrapped and
feels good in your hands. The shifter for the manual transmission
falls easily to hand. Real easily. And it feels different. And that
is because it is a short throw shifter, also from Lingenfelter. All
the comfort and convenience items are here too. There is power
windows, locks, brakes, and steering. The seats are also power
operated and there is a nice stereo system for your listening
pleasure just above the controls for the ventilation and air
conditioning system.
Open that nicely painted and fully functional cold air induction
hood, and you will find plenty of Lingenfelter's handiwork. There
is a ZL585 Supercharger that was installed by WBI Custom Cars &
Trucks in Cullman Alabama. They also installed a 90mm throttle body
to meet the increased demands for air and topped the engine off
with a Lingenfelter dress up kit. Long tube headers carry the spent
gasses out and down a dual exhaust system with mufflers that makes
the car sound awesome. A fully independent suspension with 4-wheel
Brembo disc brakes is standard on an SS Camaro and able to handle
the increased power of the supercharger. However, there has been a
pair of aluminum traction bars added to help control wheel spin at
those 275ZR20 rear tires and the front sits low and stays planted
through 245/45R20s.
If the stock 426 horsepower engine in an SS Camaro isn't quite
enough for you, then come on down and check this Lingenfelter
version out with its 585 horsepower and see what you think. You
might think you like it enough to take it home with you.
