Packard Mayfair Convertible Was $65,000.00 Now $61,995.00This 1953
Packard Convertible is a rare postwar classic. With it's sleek and
elegant European appearance, only 1,518 left dealer showrooms. It
was opulent and forward-looking in it's design and was priced at
the astounding sum (at the time) of $3,200. Powered by a 427/180 hp
Straight-8 and fitted with 2-speedAutomatic transmission. It is
well-optioned with power steering, power brakes and a power
convertible top that operates beautifully. This restored example is
vehicle number #2395 and runs great. It is an impressive example of
the height of automotive luxury in the era.The front mask looked
much more modern with a "crossbeam" across the whole width. In
addition, the chrome was refreshed on the flank.Advertising
documents and early delivered copies show the three "tin opener"
mentioned chrome trim on the rear fender;these were omitted early
in the model year.In addition, there were new taillights (again
different for the big models) and new names. The cheapest models
were ClipperandClipper Deluxe, the300became theCavalierand
thePatricianlost the additional designation "400".For Mayfair and
Convertible did not change.Technically identical but because of the
luxury equipment much more expensive was the new
CaribbeanCabriolet. The engines received a power boost through
higher compression and other carburetorsystems.Mayfair,
Convertible, Caribbean and Patrician now made 180 bhp (134 kW), the
latter still with the engine with nine-bearing
crankshaft.Clipperhad the 4.7-liter engine with now 150 hp (112 kW)
andClipper Deluxea version of the 5.3 liter with mechanical tappets
and 160 bhp (119 kW).
