1969 Mercury Cougar Convertible For Sale - 1 Of 1 428 Cobra Jet 4
Speed, Restored LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1969
Mercury Cougar Convertible In 1969 the muscle car era war was in
full swing. Wishing to remain competitive and sell more cars, the
Lincoln Mercury division of Ford Motor Company decided for 1969 to
push a sportier image. This advertising strategy was coined the
"Streep Scene", meaning the combination of "street and strip". For
the 1969 model year, Mercury introduced the new Cougar Convertible
to their lineup. It could be ordered with a 351 Windsor engine with
two or four-barrel carburetor, a 390 four barrel, or a fire
breathing, pavement ripping 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air. Horsepower for
the 428 Cobra Jet Engine was underrated by the factory at 335 for
insurance reasons (400 is nearer the mark) and required a
"Mandatory Option" of the Competition Handling package, which
delivered heavier springs, shocks and sway bars. This ultra-rare
Mercury Cougar Convertible was delivered new to King Ford Sales in
Milford, Massachusetts on October 10th, 1968. Factory painted in
the Dark Ivy Green exterior paint with a Saddle interior and power
Black convertible top, this Cougar has a timeless color
combination. This car is one of the very few Mercury Cougar
Convertibles ever factory built with the 428 Cobra Jet engine and 4
speed transmission. According to Cougar experts, Mercury produced
fewer than 50 428 Cobra Jet convertibles equipped with the 4-speed
and only 1 ever built in this configuration. It came from the
factory with the following options: 428 Cobra Jet Engine, 4 Speed
Manual Transmission, Traction Lok Differential, Power Steering,
Power Front Disc Brakes, AM/FM Radio and Head Restraints. It has
benefited from a complete nut-and-bolt restoration by marque
experts and returned this very rare 1969 Cobra Jet Mercury Cougar
Convertible to better than factory condition. Complete with
beautiful wet sanded and polished paint, factory style batch primer
with body color over spray, correct factory style paint dabs,
stickers, chalk marking, tags and inspection markings. Highlighted
by its matching-numbers 428 Cobra Jet engine with 4-speed manual
transmission, the Cougar is of course fully documented as a factory
Cobra Jet convertible by its Elite Marti Report and Lois Eminger
report direct from the Ford records. This Mercury Cougar combines
the most desired features and checks off all the boxes collectors
seek when looking to acquire and investment vehicle. A convertible
body style, the numbers matching 428 Cobra Jet engine, manual 4
speed transmission, no expense spared restoration that looks as
good under as it does on top, full and complete bulletproof
documentation and to top it all off, it is a true 1 of 1, the only
one built like it! Additional Details: 1969 MERCURY COUGAR -
