Vehicle Description
1969 Fathom Green L 89 Corvette Coupe with Black interior. 427 /
500 HP matching numbered engine, 4 speed M-21 manual transmission.
Original and un-restored. Documented with the original window
sticker, tank sticker (never removed), dealer purchase order, and
GM delivery letter. This stunning 1969 Corvette coupe offers
discriminating collectors exceptional uniqueness, originality and
authenticity showing an odometer reading of just 46,400 original
miles. It is the only known 1969 Corvette to have 500 HP printed on
the center console data plate. A crucial component of this rare
Sting Ray coupe is its L-71 tri-power engine, which is documented
by the dealer purchase order and window sticker. What is not listed
is the very special engine: the L-71 427/L-89 500 HP which is
listed and printed on the center console data plate. Mr. Abel, the
original purchaser, already owned a Corvette at the time but it was
a daily driver which used for work and he wanted to order another
Corvette for special occasions, shows, meets and occasional drag
racing. Initially he wanted to order an L-88 powered coupe but Tom
Henry Chevrolet would not take his order until they spoke to the
Tonawanda engine plant people and Zora Arkus- Duntov. Zora got
involved and after several communications convinced Mr. Able that
he " would build him an engine that he would be happy with" and
meet his requirements, hence the special data plate that says ("500
HP.) on the console. The Muncie M 21 close-ratio 4 speed manual
transmission with the 3.70: 1, positraction differential are
original to the car as well as transistor ignition, power steering,
AM/FM radio and the dealer installed side pipes and headers. Almost
every component of the car from bumper to bumper is factory
original with the exception of newer paint, correct replacement
hoses, belts, battery, and Good Year white letter tires and
wheels. The headers and side pipe mufflers were removed due to age.
Same owner for the past 47 years !
