Vehicle Description

Description

1974 Plymouth Road Runner

The Plymouth Road Runner is a mid-size car with a focus on performance built by Plymouth in the United States between 1968 and 1980. By 1968, some of the original muscle cars were moving away from their roots as relatively cheap, fast cars as they gained features and increased in price. Plymouth developed the Road Runner to market a lower priced, basic trim model to its upscale GTX.

We have a bright yellow with black stripes 1974 Plymouth Road Runner here at Classic Vintage Exchange.  Our Road Runner provides affordable high performance without breaking the bank.

The base engine for the 1973-74 models had dropped down to Chrysler's workaday 318 CID V8 but equipped with dual exhausts which bumped the power up to 170 hp. The 318 was equipped with a 3-speed manual transmission as standard though very few were built.

That 318 engine that came in this car has been replaced with a stout 440 with more mods and a lot more horsepower. It runs good and still has that very rare 3-speed manual transmission.

The interior options include bucket seats, carpeting and seat covers, a simulated woodgrain instrument panel applique and a Rallye instrument cluster with gauges for oil pressure, water temperature and alternator and a space for an optional tach or clock. The three-spoke steering wheel with horn pad, the Beep Beep horn and a bench seat were all standard.

The 1974 models received completely new sheet metal and had more conventional squared-up front-end styling and changes to the rear that more closely resembled the four-door models than the 71-72s. The fuselage body was upgraded with a Power Dome hood with black stripes with 440 emblems, side stripes that wrapped over the roof, and a Road Runner graphic on the header panel. Ours received a blacked-out grille (as opposed to a bright one) with bright accents, graphics and callouts on the C-pillars and decklid, and blacked out taillamp trim.

It has custom mag wheels, heavy-duty shocks, exterior decor package that adds more bright moldings and dual racing mirrors.

You can own this 1974 Plymouth Road Runner we have here at Classic Vintage Exchange and terrorize Wiley Coyote yourself….or just enjoy taking it to cruises and shows.
