Vehicle Description
Is there such a thing as a sensible sports car? Well, yes there is,
and we have one here. It's good looking, fast, comfortable, and
practical. It's a low-slung hatchback with an aggressive stance and
room in the back for carrying friends, vacation luggage, or dorm
room supplies. It's chock full of safety features, gets good gas
mileage, and, especially for a young driver, will save a bundle on
insurance over a V8. Check out this sweet ride with less than
18,000 miles on it and see if it is what you have been looking
for.
Sports cars are supposed to be Red, right? This Firebird has ground
hugging stance and aerodynamics like a sports car should too. A
front fascia sets the tone reaching low for the ground with dual
intakes, retractable quad halogen headlights, circular turn signals
and fog lights set into it. The windshield slopes back at a wind
cheating 62 degrees meeting the tinted T-roofs that can removed for
top off cruising on those nice days. There is a wrap-around rear
wing sitting at the trailing edge of the large hatch that makes it
easy to get to anything and everything you have tossed into it.
Tail lights are in a bar across the back with a honeycomb pattern
and Pontiac embossed in script just below them. The lower diffuser
completes the aero package, and the car sits on great looking
5-spoke allow wheels.
The sleek styling extends to the inside of the car too. The
contoured door panel has a long armrest for comfortable cruising
with power window controls at your fingertips and a speaker set
into to pump out your favorite tunes. Sport bucket seats covered in
cloth are super comfortable for long distance traveling and
supportive too for back road cruising. The beefy steering wheel
feels good in your hands and it mounted on a tilt column. Just
behind it is a well laid out dash panel with the tach and speedo
along with real gauges to keep track of engine functions like
temperature, voltage, and oil pressure. To the right is the
stereo/CD player with equalizer and the ventilation/AC controls.
The T-handle shifter for the automatic transmission sits in the
center console in front of cup holders and a nice little storage
compartment under the armrest. Safety features abound with "reduced
force" dual airbags that became standard in 2001, along with a host
of other mechanical systems for improved control.
Those systems include a solenoid-based Bosch anti-lock brake system
and an electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) that replaced the
old hydraulic proportioning valve for improved brake performance
and a Torsen II limited slip rear axle improves traction in all
conditions. The V6 engine is a proven and reliable 3.8-liter GM
engine that pumps out 200 horsepower and 225-foot pounds of torque.
It is also a light weight engine that helps the handling and
balance of the car for spirited back road fun. The 4-speed
automatic sends the power to the back wheels and that Torsen
differential that sits on a sport tuned suspension of coil springs
and shocks. Power steering and coil springs with Macphearson struts
keep the front end planted firmly on the ground, and power 4-wheel
disc brakes inspire confidence and can haul the car down in a
hurry. The rubber meets the road through 235/55R16 tires all around
mounted on those sweet looking alloy wheels.
Come on down and check this car out. See if it's the combination of
sporty, practical, safe and affordable that you have been looking
for.
