Vehicle Description

1961 Chevrolet Bel Air 409 Bubble-Top

The Chevrolet Bel Air was a full-size car produced by Chevrolet for the 1950–1981 model years. It was restyled on the GM B platform for the first time for 1961. The new body styling was more trim and boxy than the 1958–1960 models. Sport Coupe models featured a "bubbletop" roof line style for 1961.

Many early famous drag racers and NASCAR stars ran the 1961 Chevrolet Bubbletop to victories all thru the year. Even a song, "She's real fine, my 409" was written and sang by the Beach Boys, and a legend was born.

The 1961 409 Bel Air bubbletops are rare because in the 409’s first year of production, only 142 cars emerged from the factory so equipped. The VIN number on this Bel Air is #11637S128521 shows that it is a real V8 Bel Air too.

The bubbletop body is devoid of anything that identifies its power source. The only interior addition is the column-mounted tachometer that was standard with the high-output 409.

It’s all business under the hood as well. The 409 “W”-head big block features dual quad carbs on an aluminum intake manifold, high performance cam and high-flow headers and dual exhaust system, red spark plug wires and hoses, Edelbrock polished valve covers and air cleaner, performance coil and distributor, and a very detailed engine compartment.

The car motor is out of the 62 Chevy bubble top it had 425 hp I board it out 30,000 installed a new aluminum Ellerbrock heads 2for set up with carburetors and linkage Albert rock installed 4 inch stroker kit And an eagle crank pistons and rods balanced and blueprinted Iske cam and scorpion rocker arms rear end is a posit traction 373 gears clutch is a ram clutch kit with aluminum flywheel the best of everything in this motor had $11,000 in it

All this power goes thru a 4-speed transmission back to the posi rear end. The car rides on great shocks and redone suspension, performance tires mounted on period correct black 5-spoke mags.

This Bubbletop has been meticulously restored and is painted red with the V spear trim painted in silver. The rest of the trim and chrome front and rear bumpers are flawless.

The split-bench interior is a great color combo of red/grey vinyl with red carpets. It has a red painted dash with performance gauges and plenty of chrome and polished aluminum trim. An AM/FM Stereo in the dash compliment a set of dual antennas on the rear fenders. It even has a trunk custom finished in gray.
