sport coupe from the late 1980s has arrived at MotoeXotica Classic
Cars. We proudly present this 1989 Chrysler Conquest. This example
was made in Mitsubishi's Nagoya Plant in Japan in March 1989, what
would be the Conquest's final model year in North America. Finished
in Bright Blue (code T87 or PB5), the car's paint and trim are in
overall great condition but there are some minor blemishes on close
inspection. The car's windows are clear and in overall great order
however, the rear hatchback and rear sideview glass is tinted. The
car's lights are clear and intact, including the factory foglights.
Overall, the car's bodywork is straight and solid, its cargo area
is in very good condition and the car's integrated bumpers fit well
to the body. This sports coupe rolls on General G-Max AS-03 rubber,
size 205/55ZR16 in front and 225/50ZR16 in rear. Each tire
surrounds a factory five-spoke alloy wheel complete with body color
accents. The tires and wheels look very good. The car has a
MacPherson strut front suspension with an independent rear
suspension. Under the hood is Mitsubishi's 2.6L SOHC, 12-valve
four-cylinder with sequential fuel injection and dual,
counter-rotating balance shafts (code G54B). In addition, the
engine is turbocharged and intercooled, courtesy of a TD05-12A MHI
blower from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Backing this engine is a
five-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience features include
air-conditioning but currently inoperable, cruise control, power
steering, tilt steering column, power four-wheel disc brakes with
anti-lock in the rear, power windows and power, heated mirrors. The
thermostatic air-conditioner measured temperature at the ceiling
and the floor, with a photosensor to compensate for sunlight.
Inside, the black leather interior is in overall very good order.
The five-way adjustable front buckets, with their thigh bolsters,
and the rear bench seats are in very good order while the matching
carpet is in similar condition. The headliner is also in above
average shape, as is the four-spoke steering wheel. The dashboard
and inner door panel are also in very good shape. The center
console and shifter look good. Ahead of the shifter are aftermarket
voltmeter, oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges. Completing
the interior is a Kenwood AM/FM stereo with CD player. It was
marketed inNorth Americaby Mitsubishi as the Starion from 1983
until 1989 and byChrysleras the Conquest under both
theDodgeandPlymouthnames from 1984 to 1986 and under the
Chrysler name from 1987 until 1989. Toward the end of the models US
run a widebody could be bought with a "Sports Handling Package" or
SHP. This included adjustable front and rear struts and one-inch
wider wheels (up from 16 x 7 to 8" front and 16 x 8 to 9" rear).
The SHP was only offered during the '88 and '89 model years. The
package can be retro fitted to earlier pre-widebody cars.
Competition to this Chrysler in 1989 included Chevrolet's Camaro,
Ford's Mustang, Honda's Prelude, Isuzu's Impulse, Mazda's RX-7,
Mitsubishi's Starion, Nissan's 300ZX Turbo and Toyota's Supra. Fans
