1955 Chevrolet Nomad
History
The Chevrolet Nomad was a station wagon model made off and on from
1955 to 1972 produced by Chevrolet. The Nomad is best remembered in
its Tri-Five, two-door 1955-57 form, and was considered a halo
model during its three-year production as a two-door station
wagon.
The name nomad in Greek, means someone who is roaming about for
pasture or is a member of a community of people who live in
different locations, moving from one place to another.
1955 Chevrolets received all-new styling. Advertised as "The Hot
One," the boxy new Chevy was crisp, clean, and thoroughly
modern-looking, and its popularity was shared with the Tri-Five
Chevrolets of this generation. Nomads, like Bel Airs, came loaded
with interior carpet, chrome spears on front fenders, chrome window
moldings, and full wheel covers.
Why Is This Car Special
The Bahama Blue 1955 Chevrolet Nomad we have at Skyway Classic is
completely restored and improved upon with serious upgrades to the
motor, handling, ride, comfort, and attitude.
Mechanical
The engine and engine compartment is a work of art with its body
colored a #3970010 35-1967 327327 small block Chevy engine the
intake manifold. It is topped off with polished Chevrolet logo
valve covers, polished air cleaner, chrome power steering and power
brakes, headers, air conditioning, performance ignition and
distributor, oversized radiator, polished hoses, and more.
The engine compartment is show worthy as it is painted in the
Bahama Blue color also. The engine is backed by a 4-speed automatic
transmission. The suspension has been reworked with all new
components and safety was improved as it has 4-wheel disc brakes
too. Gasses flow out the rear via a dual exhaust system.
Interior
The how quality interior consists of grey leather bucket seats,
console, matching door panels carpet, floor mats, and trim, blue
painted dash with Auto Meter performance gauges, power steering,
power windows, power door locks, a radio and stereo system with
iPod hookup, and air.
Exterior
Our Nomad also has in addition to graceful lines and superb quality
of the paint, a Louvered hood and trunk. The blue is capped by a
grey roof which adds a great touch. It rolls on 5-5poke period mag
wheels and old tires that give it the 50s attitude.
Conclusion
The 1955 Chevy Nomad we have here at Skyway Classics is a rare
example of what Chevrolet came out with for the whole family to
enjoy and travel in. The 1955 Chevys were advertised as "The Hot
Ones," and this Nomad we have really carries on that tradition.
