Clenet brought his dreams of building top end, limited production
neo-classic automobiles to reality in 1975 with the help of many
fellow automobile enthusiast investors. Established in Santa
Barbara, California using only the best craftsmen available, and
high build standards, Clenet Coachworks Inc. was born! With a
1930's design inspiration, both all modern drive trains and
suspension systems, these splendid cars were largely sold to only
the wealthy and elite. At a cost of over $100,000 in the late
1970's, they typically found homes with Hollywood fame that
included Aaron Spelling, Sylvester Stallone, Wayne Newton, and
Farrah Fawcett! They were even features among the wealthiest on
episode of Dallas and soap opera Dynasty! The luxurious Series II
was introduced in 1979 with placards created for the cars prepared
and numbered through 250 units slated for production. Although,
true production ended at 187 vehicles produced through 1980 making
them extremely rare to find today! Offered here is 1980 Clenet
Series II Cabriolet #66, having only one registered owner from new,
and showing just 25,489 actual miles! Built atop a 1979 Ford
platform using a 351ci-2bbl V8 power plant and AOD overdrive
transmission, it offers plenty of power to motivate this
full-fendered beauty down the highway with ease! Features and
options include air conditioning, power front disc brakes, power
steering, chrome wire wheels wrapped in brand new American Classic
235/75R15 wide whitewall tires, rear-mounted continental accessory
spare, power windows, 6-way power seats, full interior courtesy
lights, air horns, flip top fuel cap, added electronic musical
melody horn system, cruise control, Dietz fog lamps, front/rear
seatbelts, heat/defrost, glass hood ornament, etched glass vent
windows, Pioneer sound system, faux side exit exhaust with chrome
tips, and more! The interior is draped in luxury with broad burled
walnut dash board, complete instrumentation with quartz clock,
leather wrapped steering wheel, Recaro sport seats, all leather
surfaces, and room for four adults! Outside, a stunning two-tone
paint finish remains in very good condition showing only minimal
signs of normal use, along with teakwood trimmed hood, running
boards, deck lid, and continental trim. This example sold new to
Charles Abrams in Greentown, PA new, but spent the better part of
its life parked in their West Palm Beach, Florida summer home.
After Mr. Abrams passing in 2012, this example remains parked
indoors for several years. The St. Louis Car Museum was lucky to
have the opportunity to bring this exciting Cabriolet to our
facility for a full renovation. This largely included full fluid
and filter changes, all new ignition system, fresh battery & tires,
new driver side power window motor & regulator, drained fuel
system, rebuilt carburetor, fresh rear brake wheel cylinders, front
brake hoses, new idler arm, and all new interior carpet/bindings in
our upholstery shop! We have taken the liberty of adding nearly 40
miles to the odometer to ensure it is in road ready condition!
Please feel welcome to call with questions or schedule a chance to
review in person. What a terrific opportunity to own a super rare
Neo-Classic Clenet Series II!
