For Sale: 1938 Chevrolet Business Coupe in Martinsburg, West Virginia

Vehicle Description

‘REDUCED PRICE!  I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR 48 YEARS.  FULL RESTORATION WAS COMPLETED IN 2011.  THIS CAR IS A COMFORTABLE RIDING CAR.  THIS CAR GETS LOTS OF LOOKS, COMPLIMENTS AND TROPHIES.  This is an original Kentucky car I bought in 1971 in Arlington, VA.  To begin restoration, the body was stripped down completely and the frame was sandblasted and epoxy painted.  A ‘74 Ventura (same as Nova) rear steer disc brake front clip was grafted on. Poly bushings were installed in all components and the brakes were rebuilt.  The rebuilt ‘57 Chevy rear has 3.08 open gears.  New chassis engineering rear leaf springs, sway bar, links and shocks are in place.  A TCI underfloor power brake booster was used and Lokar e-brake cables were installed.  The frame and front suspension are light brown and other suspension components are black/cast-iron/silver.  15” Centerline Thruster polished wheels and Falken tires were installed.

The body is all steel except for Superior Glass running boards.  Rust repair was very minimal, with replacement panels at the under-trunk roll pan, part of the pax-side floor, and one rocker panel.  A new, larger trans tunnel was needed to accommodate the turbo 350.  All sheet metal was epoxy-primed.  The entire interior of the body was insulated - roof, floors, doors, side panels, trunk and the new panel separating the cabin from the trunk.  The primary bodywork and paint were handled by McCoy’s Body Shop, Berkeley Springs, WV.  Body color is ‘94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Char-Gold Metallic II, with the underside of the body and the fenders painted gloss black.  Tinted safety glass was installed through along with a v-butted, tinted windshield.  New original-style bumpers from Rock Valley were installed along with new door and trunk handles (locking).  The original stainless steel grille was hand buffed to better-than-new and some of the grille trim pieces were replaced.  Both taillights have halogen bulbs and Hagen frenched halogen headlight components were installed.  New gaskets/rubbers were used throughout and Speciality power windows and wiper assemblies were used.  The body was pinstriped by hand as well as the grille and hood side trim with gold bulls-eye paint.  An automatic/electric antenna was installed along with a rear window-mounted third taillight.  The Optima battery was relocated to the trunk.

A new GM crate 350 w/4-bolt mains and 8.5:1 compression was used,  The block is painted black.  The Edelbrock 600 CFM carb and Performer manifold are bright finished and the pulleys are buffed aluminum.  Chrome value covers and an aluminum oil pain are in place.  Underwood Rainbow air components are also buffed.  The air cleaner housing is an original steel Cadillac double-scoop item painted body color.  Pertronix electronic ignition and an electric fuel pump were added. A chrome 100-amp alternator was installed and the starter is heat wrapped.  GM Rams Horn exhaust manifolds were ground smooth and painted with Eastwood cast iron gray paint.  The trans is a rebuilt Turbo 350 with a B&M 2000-stall converter and a mild shift kit.  A custom driveshaft was fabricated and balanced.  Matching Walker radiator/shroud/electric fan components were installed.  The exhaust system is 2 1/4” aluminized tubing with polished Magnaflow mufflers.  A Lokar floor-mounted shifter was used.

A late 80’s Ford Ranger split-bench seat w/fold-down armrest was reupholstered with tan faux leather material.  The door panels and headliner were upholstered with the same material.  The trunk area, including the underside of the trunk panel, are also fully upholstered.  A separate storage area was created behind the seats for secure storage.  Tight weave carpet was installed on the floors, the lower 6” of the doors, the behind-seat storage area, and the trunk.  Interior lights were placed in the seating and storage areas as well as the trunk.  The dash was modified to accommodate the HVAC controls, vents, etc.  A Pioneer AM/FM/CD/Satellite radio unit was installed in a separation panel.  A custom console was made for the shifter, vents, cup holders, gear position LED’s, etc.  The trunk panel is supported with gas struts.  Hidden storage areas for the mini spare tire, jack, and tools were created in the trunk, as well as a spot for the Optima battery.  Rainbow Air heat/cool/defrost components were used.  VDO Cockpit white gauges in a milled aluminum insert are in place.  A GM tilt column with a GM aluminum 3-spoke wheel was used.

THE CURRENT MILEAGE SINCE COMPLETION IS ABOUT 1,900 MILES!  CAR HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND COVERED IT’S WHOLE LIFE.
