Gateway Classic Cars welcomes this extraordinary piece of
automotive history, a 1914 Cadillac, to our Philadelphia located in
West Deptford, NJ! The 1914 Cadillac is the last and largest of the
Model 30 Cadillacs which began in 1909. This 103-year old
automobile, serial number 99058, is quite authentic and fully
functional! According to the owner, the four-cylinder, 365 CID
engine has never been apart and many of the parts are original
including the muffler! The horsepower is listed as 40-50 hp which
is considerable for any car of the day, but quite impressive from a
car with a four-cylinder engine! It is believed that the car has
just over 9,000 miles since new! The cylinders are cast
individually with individual heads and copper water jackets. The
lubricating system, designed and improved by Cadillac, is the same
one used on all four-cylinder Cadillacs from 1905! This Cadillac is
a special high compression "H" model which uses a unique carburetor
and caps on the heads to increase compression! The engine is
unmolested including the water cooling on the carburetor.
Historically, these cars have had problems with cracked heads.
These have no cracks! All Model 30s have problems with connecting
rod bolt breakage, this car has had those replaced by high strength
bolts by Steve Bono of M&S Restoration in Bouckville, NY! All
connecting rod bearings were hand scraped and adjusted. The clutch
and water pump have been rebuilt! The radiator has been cleaned and
filled with Evans� Coolant, there are no leaks! This is a difficult
statement to make for any brass-era car! 1913 and 1914 Cadillacs
are very similar, but differ in two major respects, the fuel feed
and the rear end. The 1913 has the gas tank as part of the cowl
with gravity feed which can be quite the challenge to clean! This
1914 Cadillac has the gas tank in the rear with pressurized feed to
the carburetor. The gas tank on this car was removed, all solder
removed and replaced with higher temperature, modern solder, sealed
with Renu� high temperature sealer and repainted! Everything on
this car works well and its starts easily! The two-speed rear end
makes this car special as it has two ratios, 3.66 (low speed) and
