Performs wonderfully!
The dream coach-built open two-seater for the Italian driving
enthusiast!
By the late 1950’s, Fiat was actively pursuing a replacement for
the 1200 Spider. 1959 saw the introduction of the Tipo 118 style
Spider. Designed by Pininfarina in Turin, the Italian coachwork
firm built the bodies before sending them to Fiat for final
assembly. Yet another great example of Italian design, the Tipo 118
Spider featured a low profile with an egg crate style grille
surrounding the Fiat insignia in the center. Round parking lights
were up front with wrap around steel chrome bumpers at the front
and back. 1964 models saw an increase in engine displacement to
1,481cc. The new engine was rated for over 80hp and gave the new
1500 spider a top speed of 100mph. In addition to the larger, more
powerful engine, power disc brakes were introduced for 1964. 1966
models, the final model year of production, 1500 Spiders offered
the 5-speed manual transmission, allowing for more comfortable
high-speed touring. An Italian coach-built sports car with
Ferrari-esque lines, the Fiat 1500 Spider is still highly praised
by both collectors and enthusiasts looking to appease their Italian
sports car needs at a not-so-Italian sports car price.
