Great old 1987 Volkswagen Rabbit Cabriolet for sale. One of the few survivors having only averaged under 3k miles per year since new, showing just 92,300. This special post-modern, California VW comes from a collector friend of ours who loves to buy one and two owner California cars that are mostly if not all original. Whenever he gets the car he sends it straight over to his mechanic and has anything and everything done to it to ensure that it's completely reliable. This Cabriolet starts; runs and drives great with smooth shifting via its automatic transmission and plenty of power. It just passed the stringent California smog-check with no issues. This car has a newer alternator, new battery, new spark plugs, wires, and distributor. Also, because it was mostly stored over the years the EEC vacuum and vapor lines, as well as the oxygen sensors and computer, have been replaced or repaired. It starts and runs and drives beautifully and is ready for the next leg of its journey!
Overall the car looks nice, especially considering it's originality and age. It is still wearing its original paint and showing no signs of bodywork though as expected after 30+ years there is some patina. Overall the exterior isn't perfect though it is very presentable. The top is original and getting brittle through the headliner is good. The cost of a new top is $200 plus installation. Otherwise, the exterior is quite nice overall.
The interior is also extremely clean with no rips or tears or cracks except the left side driver side bottom bolster from getting in and out of the car. I think the white leather on that area could be replaced inexpensively if someone chose to do so. Everything in the car is working well, the air conditioning turns on and blows cool, the newer radio works well, heating, lighting, etc. Nicely functional and very comfortable to drive.
