Vehicle Description
It's not often you come across a big block 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS
that was ordered with all the right features and still carries them
perfectly today.
This car inspires lust at every angle. The pristine shine of the
Matador Red will make your heart race, but this Camaro is more
about bad attitude than romance. It shows its aggressive side, with
a black streak, that starts with the grille, runs through the SS
stinger stripe, and continues onto the black vinyl roof. The Rally
wheels are even mounted on redline tires to keep the red/black
theme going. Panel fit is quite good overall, and it's nice to see
a stock hood with the velocity stack inserts, simply because
there's no cowl induction hood made that's cooler. A chin spoiler
and traditional ducktail out back add to the SS's attitude, and
proper badging remains throughout, including the vaunted '396'
emblems on the front fenders. But before all these features fill
you with desire, take some time to look at the fundamentals. Check
out our pictures from underneath this Camaro. Do you see how the
underside of the car is also painted red? That level of detail is
proof of serious time and money invested in restoring this coupe to
a cut above the rest. This is one of those Camaros you bring a
mirror along to car shows so you can lay it underneath and
highlight what everyone else covers up.
This coupe continues to be out for blood with the pristine red
vinyl interior. The Camaro's upscale buckets and console make this
one feel more like a gentleman's hot rod than a street brawler.
This premium attitude is continued with woodgraining on the console
and three-spoke sport steering wheel. The driver gets a full array
of original instruments, including the coveted tic-toc-tach and
white-faced auxiliary gauges on the console. This one feels so
1960s fresh, it even has the period-correct AM/FM radio.
The big block L34 396 cubic-inch V8 nearly fills every inch under
the hood with its 325 horsepower. One glance at the highly detailed
engine bay, and you'll see there was no expense spared in this very
important showpiece. It has been beautifully finished with correct
Chevy orange paint on the block, a satin black background, and
bright chrome on the air cleaner as well as the valve covers. If
you like this kind of original appearance, then you'll love to know
about this SS coupe's factory performance features such as the
four-barrel Rochester carburetor, Muncie M20 four-speed manual
transmission, and Hurst shifter. This whole package makes a sweet
rumble out of the dual exhaust as you row through the gears on the
open road. But if you must stop, it's an easy affair thanks to
power brakes with discs up front.
Take a look at the original window sticker and note that you can
still check off every major factory option on this Camaro. Then we
will show you all the manuals, original dealer invoice, and all the
other items from nearly 50 years of previous owners. Someone has
