Vehicle Description
History
The Pontiac Firebird is an American automobile built by Pontiac
from the 1967 to the 2002 model years. Designed as a pony car to
compete with the Ford Mustang, it was introduced in 1967, the same
model year as GM's Chevrolet division platform-sharing Camaro.
The front end was restyled in 1979 and made it look like a
completely different car. The Firebird was Pontiacs version of the
Camaro just a little more refined.
Why This Car Is Special
The one we have here at Skyway Classics is painted in white with a
brand new tan interior, headliner, and windshield.
Mechanical Specs
It is powered by the Pontiac 301 cubic inch small block V8 that was
the standard motor for the 1979 Formula. It provides enough grunt
to move the Formula with authority, for 1979, it was more than most
of the competition.
This Formula had the base Trans Am performance oriented tuned
suspension which included standard 157 inch Rally II wheels. With
this suspension came standard front discs and rear drums brakes,
and this one has new springs, shocks, and exhaust.
Interior
The interior could be appointed with all the same luxury and power
options available on the Trans Am. Even the Trans Am's famous metal
dashboard bezel is standard on this Formula. It also has Air
Conditioning, power steering, power brakes, the Original Owner's
Manual and paperwork, brand new tan interior,New Headliner, New
Windshield, Audio System, Air Conditioning, Power steering, Power
brakes, Automatic Transmission, 157 inch Rally II wheels, Standard
Front Discs and Rear drums brakes, New springs and shocks, New
Exhaust, and the Original Owner's Manual and Paperwork.
Exterior
The odometer shows 73,000 miles and is believed to be true and the
Bird had the same owner for 35 years with one repaint over solid
body not a bondo special.
Cosmetically the 1979 Formula came with a two-tone paint scheme
which consisted of a lower body color that ran the entire length of
the car and was incorporated into the lower portion of the front
and rear fascias. Separating the lower body color from the main
exterior color were stylish stripes which ran the entire length of
the car. The lower body color was also used to accent the front
portion of the twin hood scoops.
