For Sale: 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 in Oakwood, Georgia

Vehicle Description

1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40.

Vin FJ4092191.

3-Speed Speed Manual.

81,309 Miles. Capri Blue.

Grey Interior. Manual, Service Records, Tools, Spare, and a Jack.

By so many standards, the FJ40 is the definitive 20th century 4x4. With an international pedigree like a Land Rover, the rugged simplicity of a Jeep and swagger like an old Bronco, the FJ is a greatest hits album of classic trucks. Fun to look at, sure, but driving one will take your appreciation to a whole new level.

This particular Capri Blue FJ40 is a great combination of all the above. Mechanically restored and spot on, but retained its original exterior patina, giving the car the rough/tough look that it deserves.

This car was originally in care of its first owner in the sunny state of Arizona. According to this owner, the FJ kept its original engine and transmission. It’s rust free, accident free, unmolested, and the top has never been removed. In 2010, the FJ made its way to sunny Georgia, where it underwent a years long extensive rejuvenation.

Everything mechanical and all interior work have been done. All parts replaced were Toyota OEM unless specified. The majority of work has been completed by ACC Garage (ACC Toyota, Lexus, & Land Cruiser of Atlanta.) Below is all the work done between 2010 - 2016:

ENGINE: The original engine was rebuilt at 31K miles (2001). There is currently strong compression in all cylinders. New intake and exhaust manifolds, all powder coated. Rebuilt carburetor and valve adjustment. Powder-coated factory air cleaner. Recent new belts, hoses, and filters. Oil lines upgraded to stainless steel.

ELECTRICAL: The entire wiring harness was rebuilt. The stock 30-amp alternator was upgraded with a 65-amp Bosch alternator. The mechanical voltage regulator was upgraded.

DRIVETRAIN: Rebuilt and powder-coated transfer case. Balanced and powder-coated front and rear drive shafts. New universal joints. New clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing. New clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder. Rebuilt rear axle,  new carrier bearings and bushings. Installed Auburn limited-slip differential (for traction and for driving on ice, snow, and wet conditions) in rear axle. Rebuilt front Warn (original) locking hubs. Complete braking system. New wheel cylinders for each wheel, new brake linings, and new brake lines.

SUSPENSION AND STEERING: Ironman 4x4 2.5” lift kit, with new leaf spring and new gas shocks to accommodate 33” tires. Polyurethane bushings. Man-a-free greaseable anti-inversion shackles. All new steering: New tie rods, steering linkage, and steering dampener.

OFF-ROAD/TRAIL RIDING UPGRADES: Heavy duty Warn 8270-50 winch with Warn winch cover (150’ of cable). Hi-Lift Extreme bumper jack. Man-A-Fre Warn winch bumper with two tow D-ring shackle attachments. Safari Aussie Grill/Brush guard. Ironpig/Metal tech extreme heavy duty skid plate. Rear receiver hitch for 2 draw bar. DiamondRax heavy duty rain gutter clamps and Triple-Dog Gutter supports for mounting a cargo basket, roof top tent, or lights. Axle breather vent tubes.

INTERIOR: Seats reupholstered to match original Toyota dark gray color material. All seat frames sandblasted and powder-coated with all new hardware. New high density seat foam. New bulbs for instrument panel and interior. Pull knobs restored. Glove box, ash tray, and speedometer bezel refinished and powder-coated. New Toyota shifter diagram on the glove box. New sun visors. Front doors completely refurbished. Front heater rebuilt. Rear foot heater rebuilt. New cowl drain lines. Rear hatch handle and seal replaced with new. Rear hatch springs replaced with gas struts.

In conclusion, the FJ40 is a wonderfully simple vehicle that is much more than the sum of its parts, not only because of its capabilities but because of the things that people associate it with. Toughness, adventurousness, reliability, and style.
