Vehicle Description
History
The Ford Thunderbird is a rear wheel drive automobile which was
manufactured by Ford in the United States over eleven model
generations from 1955 through 2005. The Thunderbird created a
market niche that eventually became known as the personal luxury
car.
Although the 1955-57 Thunderbird was a success, Ford executives,
particularly Robert McNamara, were concerned that the car's
position as a two-seater limited its sales potential. As a result,
the car was redesigned as a four-seater for 1958.
For 1959, the car received a new grille and a 352 cu in V8 with a
3-speed automatic transmission. With sales numbers skyrocketing
upward of 70,000 cars sold it was becoming an icon, somewhat of a
status symbol for that generation. This car was not only selling
like crazy, but it was making history by becoming Motor Trend's
first ever individual model to be given the title of "Car of the
Year".
Why This Car Is Special
We have a great example of that Car Of The Year because we have a
1959 Factory Raven Black Thunderbird at Skyway Classics that was
owned by the same owner the last 24 years.
The Thunderbird was Ford's most expensive model offered for sale in
'59. Ford began offering leather seats in the Thunderbird to
further personify the "Personal Luxury" feel that started the
Thunderbird revolution.
Mechanical Specs
The Tbird has receipts for about $6,000 in work since purchase. It
has new shocks, brakes, spindles, top hydraulics, Coker white

The 352 engine has been rebuilt and has over 300 horse now with its
updates, it runs and drives very well.
