Vehicle Description
Some people wanted to play Smokey and the Bandit when buying a
black Pontiac T/A. But this is your chance to own something above
movie star quality with this 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.
Because as you look at the buildsheet, you'll see all the right
desirable features - from four-speed manual transmission to the WS6
suspension package.
We could continue to make movie references about a black Trans Am
with gold trim, but the simple fact is that these were so cool
looking that they were destined to be legendary even without
Hollywood. Never designed to be a subtle machine, the deep
Starlight Black is the perfect outlaw color, especially with the
quality respray on this example. The chin spoiler and Endura front
bumper don't show any evidence of run-ins with steep driveways or
parking curbs, making this an attraction that can hold its head
high at car shows. But what really makes this one grab attention is
all the gold that's on everything from under the full-width rear
spoiler to the iconic "snowflake" alloys that instantly identify
the best Pontiacs of the era. And of course, no one can escape the
bold and iconic "hood bird" that's front and center.
Inside, the factory-correct black means this T/A was a full
midnight package from day one. The bucket seats are high-backed and
well bolstered for an exceptionally nice feeling. Plus, the
AM/FM/CD stereo with aux input and modern speakers means you can
hook up the most modern music players with clear sound. So it's a
vintage ride that doesn't leave your favorite road trip tunes at
home. Plus, there are other great features like power windows and
power locks. But more than just amenities, this is a driver's car
at its heart. It has the grippy three-spoke steering wheel that's
uniquely Pontiac, and beyond that is the cool machined aluminum
dash. Plus, one feature that's seen on a lot of these Trans Ams,
but is thankfully missing on this one, is the popular automatic
transmission option. That's right...even the Bandit didn't get the
kind of powerband control that you have in this four-speed manual
coupe.
With 400 cubic-inches under the hood, you'll find very few people
willing to call the big V8's block color "baby" blue. This has been
dressed up for both show and performance with the chrome valve
covers, chrome alternator, and a heavy breathing four-barrel
carburetor living under that hood scoop. The full force of this
sounds amazing as it leaves the dual exhaust. But what really is
going to make you fall in love/lust with this one is the special is
the WS6 handling package. It includes front & rear sway bars, a
tighter steering box ratio, and four-wheel disc brakes. This option
made the Trans Am the favorite of most automotive magazines back in
the day. Today this one still can compete thanks to modern Cooper
Cobra GT rubber. And if all you do is want to cruise this slick
black T/A, the power steering and cruise control make it an easy
anytime choice.
The sale comes with the original factory buildsheet and maintenance
