1R10083 was purchased new by a Mr. Ashton of Santa Barbara, CA on
September 26, 1969, wearing Signal Red paint over Beige leather
upholstery, with a 4-speed manual transmission in open two-seater
configuration. The E-Type would remain in Santa Barbara County for
the following 30 years. At a later point in the Jaguar's life, Dr.
Ashton (a surgeon) traded an operation to a local body shop owner
for a paint refresh in correct Signal Red along with a new
convertible top - which it continues to proudly display both today.
In 1999, the car was acquired by a Mr. Ruby of Ventura County from
Ashton's wife and daughter. Ruby was a meticulous owner, carefully
filing all services performed during his 15 years of tenure. In
early 2002, a rebuild of its original engine 7R6491-9 was entrusted
to Steve's Jaguar Service, whom regularly maintained the car years
before and after - addressing nearly all systems comprehensively.
In 2015, 1R10083 then moved to Beverly Hills under new ownership
until 2018. A routine service, tune-up and inspection was recently
performed in February 2018.
Now offered from our Houston, Texas showroom, this Series II
Roadster is a beautifully behaved performer with nicely mellowed
cosmetics and the ideal "driver" for weekend sprints, long touring
or even casual display. It is accompanied by a large file of
records, Owner's Manual, Lubrication Chart, jack (in pouch), lead
hammer with brass spanner, spare wheel and additional sets of
keys.
