Great investment! Still one of the most desired collector cars
throughout the world, the Ford Mustang! More than one million cars
were produced during the first two years alone to satisfy hungry
buyers in the mid-1960's! Today some the most desired are the fully
optioned convertibles, particularly the early 1964.5 examples built
from March 1964 through August 1964. These unique examples have
special features found specifically on the first units built. A
special engine coding system, vented radiator support to help
battery cooling, generator charging system, large horns, just to
name a few. Very few of these continue to remain in rust free
condition today, so finding a good one can be a real challenge! We
are very excited to offer this incredibly well preserved 1964.5
Ford Mustang Convertible finished in factory code correct Caspian
Blue over Blue Vinyl Interior! Powered by its original D-code
289ci-4bbl V8 210 horsepower engine, C4 automatic transmission, and
3.00:1 conventional rear end ratio! A perfect setup for a highway
cruiser in any climate! The option list for this early Mustang is
quite strong with power steering, air conditioning, power
convertible top, original working AM radio, 14" steel wheels with
chrome wire spoke wheel covers, reverse lights, rocker panel
moldings, padded sun visors, tinted window glass, seatbelts, rubber
floor mats, single outside mirror with day/night interior mirror,
and seat belts! This wonderfully rust free example bears all
original sheet metal from new, and just one older repaint finished
in the 1980's. It sold new from a Charlotte, NC Ford dealer to a
doctor who ordered it special for his wife as a gift. When they
came to sell it, it didn't go far when their Rock Hill, NC neighbor
who always admired the car purchased it for his own. We believe he
was the one who decided to have the paint refinished during his
ownership. He would maintain possession until Steve Woolard would
purchase it in June 2000 with 93,000 miles on the odometer. It
would only trade hands these three times since new! Since 2000, Mr.
Woolard would be an active member of the Southern Performance Ford
Club (SPFC) and showcased his pride and joy avidly! It earned a
First Place at the Grand National Mustang Show at Lowe's Motor
Speedway for 64.5-66 Open-Driven Class in 2002. It was also a
multiple award winner, particularly in the SPFC Auto Fair Spring &
Fall circuit taking either Class Winner or Best of Class honors
twelve times, along with a Silver & 2 Gold Awards at Mustang & All
Ford Shows! Trophies will be provided to the next owner as they
stayed with this car. Inside, you will find a remarkably well kept
original presentation with factory floor carpeting & underlayment,
factory seat upholstery & foam cushions; door panels, sail & kick
panels; factory instrument panel & gauges; original seatbelts; and
more! Mechanically, Mr. Woolard rebuilt the front & rear suspension
components in 2012 along with a new, correct replacement radiator
with hoses & clamps. Outside you will find a brand new convertible
top and boot cover also installed in 2012. A new exhaust system was
installed in 2012. The factory transmission was completely rebuilt
in April 2015. New power top cylinders and lines were installed in
May 2015, as well as new power steering lines later that same year
with fresh Hankook radial whitewall tires. Upon arrival here to the
St. Louis Car Museum, we elected to replace the door sill plates
and door handles for new. Under the hood, it was due for a some
freshening, so we took the extra effort to detail the engine
compartment with new radiator shroud, radiator cap, and upgraded
5-blade fan; new valve cover gaskets, all new drive belts, fresh
brake fluid with new rear brake hose, cleaned & adjusted the
brakes, along with fresh engine oil & filter. Once finished, we
completely serviced the air conditioning system to ensure it blows
cold. It is an exceptionally nice and structurally solid example
that couldn't be more ready to enjoy! It maintains all original
major factory components right down to the carburetor, heads,
intake, etc.as well as untouched factory door tag! Please call
with any additional questions or to schedule a chance to see it in
person! But don't wait! Cars like this never last long! Thanks for
looking!
