History
The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured by BMW since
1972. It is the successor to the New Class Sedans and is currently
in its seventh generation.
The first generation of 5 Series was powered by naturally aspirated
inline-4 and straight-6 petrol engines. Following generations have
been powered by inline-4, straight-6, V8 and V10 engines with both
natural aspiration and turbocharging. Since 1982, diesel engines
have been included in the 5 Series range.
Why Is This Car Special
The BMW 535d we have at Skyway Classics is a highly capable midsize
sport sedan made better by the power and efficiency of its new
diesel engine. It is so smooth and quiet with the inline
six-cylinder turbocharged 3.0-liter that you will often forgot it
is a diesel.
The 30 mpg combined EPA mileage and the 18.5-gallon fuel tank will
take you more than 550 miles. You probably can stretch that range
on long trips, since the highway rating is 38 mpg.
Mechanical Specs
The 535d has a turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine
under the hood, makes 255 horsepower and extremely healthy 413
pounds-feet of torque. Power normally goes to the rear wheels
through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Interior
Inside the BMW has a dark grey Leather bucket seat interior with
matching door panels, console, and floor carpeting. Visibility is
good in every direction, and backseat passengers have plenty of
window space to let light in.
BMW's iDrive system is standard in the 5 Series, and it works
great. A simple controller on the center console handles operation
of the large display screen, as well as switching between audio,
navigation and internet-based apps. A trip computer rests among the
gauges also.
Exterior
The 5 Series got a freshened look for 2015 with updated styling
front and rear, and the overall design remains very typical of the
BMW lineup. It rides on ten-spoke BMW factory wheels and
performance tires and has a great ride.
Conclusion
The BMW 535d we have at Skyway Classics has a clean car fax, is a
one owner car with below average year-to-year miles and is
incredibly clean. Once you try a diesel powered luxury vehicle, you
just can't go back to gasoline. Even though it is a late model,
finding a 535D in this condition is a great find, indeed.
