1965 ASTON MARTIN DB5 COUPE:
--Sage Green with Tan leather, Green carpeting, Restored, 4.0 liter
engine, 5-Speed Transmission, Matching numbers, Original factory
left hand drive example.
The DB5 epitomized the success of Aston Martin’s mission to produce a world-class GT coupe with the sporting gentleman in mind. The car was hand built and engineered beginning with its groundbreaking predecessor, the DB4. Top grade materials were used in its manufacture, such as aluminum body panels which were mounted over a skeleton of small-diameter tubing, that being a patented engineering process by Touring, of Milan as Superleggera construction. The DB race-proven engine was made of aluminum, including the block and twin-cam hemispherical cylinder head. The interior was upholstered in Connolly leather, which was complemented by sumptuous Wilton carpets. The result was a period supercar of unmatched power, elegance, and old-world luxury.
According to its factory build sheet, a copy of which accompanies the car, this stunning DB5 was built to the desirable U.S. specification with the following factory options: Left-hand drive, Chrome wheels, Heated rear glass, Britax safety belts, Fiamm horns and a single fender mirror. Its factory warranty was issued on February 19, 1965 to original owner O. Strauss II of New York City. Mr. Strauss was a member of the socially prominent Guggenheim family.
The car has since enjoyed many years of dedicated enthusiast ownership, including several years with Aston collector and vintage racer Mr. K. DeBene. The DB5 was restored during Mr. Debene’s ownership. Later, while owned by Mr. S. Bruni of Connecticut, it received 2nd in Class at the AMOC North America Concours at Lime Rock in 2003. Subsequent owners have included only Aston Martin enthusiast collectors to date. Thus, this DB5 has been well-known to Autosport Designs, Inc. having been previously sold and serviced by us.
Within the last couple of years, over $70k has been spent to ensure this DB5’s continued exceptional condition in every way. A Harvey Bailey suspension handling kit has been fitted as well as a custom aluminum radiator to ensure peace of mind in Summer weather conditions. This DB5 has undergone exhaustive levels of detailing and maintenance, regardless of cost and use to keep in its current top form. As a result, we believe it is one of the best performing and well sorted DB5’s available.
Superb in every way, this DB5 is accompanied by a factory jack, tools, and owner’s handbook. A wonderful DB5 for the concours lawn or to enjoy on the open road for pleasure.
