For Sale: 1930 Hudson Indy Race Car in Kentwood, Michigan
Champ car racing began in America during the early 1900's. These
cars raced on a number of surfaces including: dirt, board and
brick. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is no doubt the most famous
venue where these cars competed. The people who designed and built
these cars were creating technology, not building on what has
already been done. Cars of this era were all different as rules and
regulations were liberal and the derivers who campaigned them
stretched the limits of courage and skill. Champ Car Racing lives
on in the modern day as May 2017 marked the 101st running of the
Indianapolis 500.
The Hudson Powered racecar offered here was purchased as a complete
car, less engine, prior to World War ll by private collector from
Ohio. Verbal history states thet the car has an original alloy body
that is fitted to a drilled and lightened Model A frame with an
original 1932 front Axle. The car is said to always have run Hudson
"Sixes" as power. The current power plant is derived from a 308
Hudson Hornet that is connected to an In-ouy gearbox. The car has
the early quick-change rear end, early front crank tach-drive, an
external sump oil pump that holds approximately 4 gallons of oil in
the pan and sump, needle-bearing cam and early gauges. The wheels
are alloy discs and they are mounted with center spindle knock
offs.
The car has been updated with a more modern paint scheme which
resembles that of the Kuzma driven to victory in the 1952
Indianapolis 500 by Troy Ruttman for car owner J.C. Agajanian.
Early race cars hold much automotive history and complete examples
as the one offered here remain in high demand.
