Vehicle Description
This beauty was purchased by its third owner on Bring A Trailer
website several years ago and has just had it thoroughly serviced
including 4 new tires. The car is equipped with overdrive
transmission for easy freeway driving and was completely insulated
using Dynomat type material to improve passenger comfort. Here is
how Bring A Trailer described this car: This 1967 Volvo 122s was a
Washington State car from new until when it was purchased its
second owner. At that time it was listed here on eBay by Cascadia
Classic. The third owner was the winner of the car and shipped it
to his East Coast location. He says he is absolutely satisfied with
the car, but happened to find a very rare Jensen CV8 that he has
been looking for for some time, and bought so the Volvo had to go.
With the sheet metal 100% rust free and original, this is a West
Coast survivor car that's been cared for from day one and is now
quite possibly the driest 122 in existence. The car has had one
repaint in its original color of Dark Green, code 94. This is a
rare color to find on an Amazon and was only available from
1967-1970. The paint on the car is just a tick below show quality
according to the seller, and it has a few touched in chips on the
leading edge of the hood but otherwise is very sharp. The paint has
excellent lustre and shine, application was excellent with no
overspray, orange peel or runs. The body on this 122 is said to be
very straight with no dents or areas of waviness. Tires are classic
Michelin XZX's with good tread and no sidewall checking.
Both bumpers have been rechromed, and they're straight and clean
with no dents or dings. Trim is all nice as well, and all of the
chrome on the car is in good shape with no pitting. The windows are
all original Sunex pieces in great shape. The windshield is a high
quality replacement, it shows a little age but no damage. Lights
and lenses are all in excellent condition according to the seller.
The vintage WA plate in the photos is the one issued to the car in
1967. A clean trunk area with a correct replacement mat and side
panels is nicer than on any 122 we have seen in person. The trunk
exhibits no rust issues. The trunk carries the original jack and a
partial tool kit.
The seats are all original and in excellent condition. The car has
a set of vintage Coco mats that are custom fit for this car and in
great shape. The rubber flooring beneath is all original with no
areas of wear or cracking, uncommon for their age. Sill plates,
door panels, hardware and weatherstripping are all good according
to the seller. The back seat area is in line with the rest of the
interior, just very well preserved. A nice stock steering wheel
shows no cracks and the ashtray is unused. The heater and fan are
very effective and blow very hot. A classic Bendix radio still
works great, and all lights, signals, wipers and horn work
correctly.
The dash pad is in excellent shape with no cracks. All gauges work,
the car shows consistent operating temperatures according to the
seller. The ribbon speedometer was apparently designed as a safety
feature by Volvo; the more red you see the more caution you should
exercise. The car comes with an owner's manual, radio instruction
manual, and a rare Volvo accessory brochure.
The car runs very well according to the seller. An M41 overdrive
transmission has been installed and gives the car much more freeway
capability. The first thing we always wish for in any 122 variant
is an overdrive transmission. The undercarriage shows IPD swaybars
front and rear. Floorpans and rockers are very clean as shown in
the gallery. A period roof rack is also included in the sale.
The condition of the car is excellent and is in the same condition
today. These cars in this condition continue to appreciate and are
solid rolling investments.
