Michelin tires Big, brawny and bodacious, the Dodge Viper made
quite a splash on the sports car scene when it arrived in 1992 with
its unconventional take on the traditional two-seater. MotoeXotica
Classic Cars is proud to present this 1995 Viper RT/10 Roadster.
This example was made in Chrysler's New Mack Avenue assembly plant
in Detroit, Michigan then shipped to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin sales
region. Finished in Viper Red, the car's paint and trim are in
overall very good order, with some minor blemishes visible upon
close inspection. This Viper has had the same owner for the past
five years! The windshield and rear window are in good condition,
as are the car's lights, which are intact. A soft-top cover is
included and side curtains of fabric with clear plastic operated by
zippers were inserted into the door and hand-bolted when needed.
All of these decisions were made to reduce weight. The car shipped
with a tonneau cover (the soft top is removable and folds to fit in
the trunk). This snake rolls on new Michelin radials, size
275/40ZR17 in front and 335/35ZR17 in back. The tires are wrapped
around gray, three-spoke factory wheels, which still look great.
The car's bodywork, a tubular steel frame with resintransfer
molding(RTM)fiberglasspanels, is straight and solid, the bumpers
fit well to the car's body, the car's engine bay is tidy and the
cargo area is in good shape. The battery is located in the sealed
compartment over the rear wheels to increase rear-end weight and
traction. Under that big, tilt-up hood is motor with a unique
cylinder configuration.Lamborghini, then owned by Chrysler
Corporation, designed theV-10for the Viper by recasting the block
and heads in an aluminumalloy, and was based on the Chrysler LA V-8
engine. A major contributor to the Viper since the beginning was
Dick Winkles, the chief power engineer, who spent time in Italy.
The V-10 engine weighed 711pounds and produced 400horsepower at
4600rpm and 465lbs-ft of torque at 3600rpm. It completed a quarter
mile in 12.6 seconds and had a maximum speed of more than 150mph.
Buttoned to this engine is a Tremec six-speed manual transmission
with a 3.07:1 rear end with anti-spin. The Viper's large tires
allowed the car to average close to one lateralgin corners, placing
it among the elite cars of its day. As a throwback to the old
school of driving, the Viper eschewed modern safety aids such
astraction controlandanti-lock brakes. Driver convenience features
on this model include air-conditioning, power rack-and-pinion
steering, power four-wheel disc brakes and tilt steering column.
Inside, the old-school line of thought continues with the car's
spartan cabin. The gray leather bucket seats, which offer
inflatable lumbar support and are adjustable, are in good order, as
is the black carpeting. The gray instrument panel, with its full
instrumentation, is in one piece and looks fine. Facing the driver
is a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel. The inner door
panels, mirror glass, center console and shift lever are all in
good shape. Completing the interior is a factory AM/FM stereo with
cassette deck. New-for-1995 Viper features included a passenger
assist handle, refined alignment specifications and seat cushion
storage pockets. Many of the body panel rivets were removed for
1995 to lend the car a cleaner appearance. The first Viper
prototype was tested in January 1989. It debuted in 1991 with
twopre-production modelsas thepace carfor theIndianapolis 500that
year and went on sale in January 1992 as theRT/10 Roadster.
Competition to this Dodge in 1995 included Chevrolet's Corvette
Convertible, Ferrari's F355 Spyder, Nissan's 300ZX Convertible and
Porsche's 993 Convertible. This car is currently located at our
facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer
shows 23,117 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and
clear, actual mileage Kansas title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!! PLEASE
