Vehicle Description
Showing the benefits of skilled craftsmanship both inside and out,
this 1955 Chevrolet Nomad is one absolutely category-killer of a
restomod. It's only logged 1,000 miles since its build and features
an impressive array of top tier components to go along with its
undeniable curb appeal.
While the Nomad model designation actually spanned about a dozen
years, it's really the first generation that occupies an exalted
place in car history. As a '55, this Nomad debuted only about a
year after its concept was first introduced at the GM Motorama,
fittingly as part of the "Dream Cars" exhibit. If you take a close
look, it mirrors the styling of the Bel Airs of the era, but when
you step around to the side and view its distinctive profile, you
can see how it very much has an identity all its own. Decked out in
Starfire blue, with pearl white running above, the work of
respected Kustom Kars of Selmer, Tennessee, its visual impact is
immediate and really stays with you - it's a color combination that
will leave you wanting to take a second glance . . . and then a
third. This is clearly a well-finished classic, sporting clean,
shiny chrome on its bumpers, body trim and minimal badging, and its
assembly of tinted windows is impressively clear.
Climb inside to see a sterling example of custom interior
craftsmanship. Featuring a pair of re-imagined, late model power
bucket seats in front and a distinctively and comfortably appointed
bench seat in back, both clad in tan leather, this is a show
stopper of an environment for driver and passenger alike. There are
great touches and outstanding craftsmanship nearly everywhere you
look, from the graceful curvature of the custom center console, to
the also-custom dash area just beyond the chrome steering wheel and
stainless tilt column that skillfully captures the essence of
mid-'50s Chevy styling, but with an updated, almost futuristic
approach that features a set of Dakota digital gauges residing
inside the fan-shaped instrument cluster. Off to the right, the
controls for the Vintage Air climate control system, as well as an
AM/FM/CD system with iPod compatibility, sit concealed just inside
the glove box door. The exemplary work carries back to the storage
area, which is lined with tan carpet and sports walls that match
the texture of the door panels up front.
Aesthetics are an essential element with modded classics like this
one, but the array of mechanical features you'll find on this Nomad
are plenty impressive, as well. A 5.7 liter LS1 V8 sits under the
hood in a thoroughly well-planned engine bay that leaves not so
much as a wire in sight. The powerplant is dressed out in a pair of
custom valve covers painted to match the exterior and it starts
right up and offers impressive acceleration, breathing out into a
pair of aftermarket headers leading to its stainless MagnaFlow
exhaust. The original chassis has given way to a custom Art
Morrison counterpart, which offers coilovers in both front and back
for a dramatically improved ride and handling, and gives this Chevy
its distinctive lowered stance. With power steering installed and
Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners, it also navigates and
stops as ably as it turns heads. This well-conceived and executed
restomod sits on a set of Billet Specialties Dagger wheels - 18" in
front and 20" in back, that are carrying Nitto tires.
