This 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T is an original 426 Hemi, 4-Speed car which is ready to be used or enjoyed. Among the most powerful muscle cars of the period, the 426 Hemi was rated at 425 horsepower from the factory, putting it on par with the contemporary LS6-powered Corvette, and beyond all of the Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds available in 1971. This particular car is unmodified has put down substantially more power, upwards of 500 horsepower, on a chassis dyno.
This car retains its original R/T equipment, including an 8,000 RPM tachometer and 150MPH speedometer, along with numerous other extras including the Shaker hood with graphic, rear window louvers, and decklid spoiler.
The 426 Hemi is unmodified, and the engine bay is correct in appearance down to a black-top Mopar battery. The engine block was replaced under warranty when the car was nearly new, and the swap is documented in the car’s file. The engine starts easily and pulls strong in all gears.
The interior of this car is in very impressive condition, with an crack-free dash, like-new vinyl seats, and beautifully fitted carpets.
The paint is not original, though despite a few flaws the car does show very well. There are some minor chips present, which are documented in the gallery below, but the paint is intact in virtually all of the car’s wear-prone areas. The nose, rockers, and even the wheel wells are intact and free of chipping. The chrome and aluminum brightwork is in very good condition throughout.
Unmodified, factory, Hemi Challengers are very uncommon, and this example is ready to enjoy.
