Here is a truck model that seems to be getting more popular each week. This 1978 Ford F150 Ranger represents the sixth generation F150 (1973-1979). And while demand for pickups from this era continues to grow, this one obviously presents something well beyond the factory offerings.
This clean Kentucky 4x4 had a tremendous amount of work performed with many pictures and receipts included. This was a full frame-off effort (see pictures) with most of the work completed in 2015. It needs a few finishing touches but all the heavy lifting is done for you. The entire chassis was cleaned up, painted, and coated. So were the bed, cab, and front end. There are loads of new and reconditioned parts throughout, and the suspension received a 6” lift as well.
The original 351-2v engine was replaced with a built 460 cubic inch setup producing an estimated at 500hp. It sounds fantastic! It received a 0.030” overbore along with a Comp Cams camshaft, Weiand intake, and Holley carburetor with electric choke. The NP435 4-speed manual transmission shifts nicely and has a new clutch. The big NP205 transfer case works good too.
The interior was also redone with a new seat cover, door panels, carpet, and headliner. The dash was repainted and received digital gauges. There is an aftermarket steering wheel and blue cab lighting to go with the rest of the truck. The stereo uses a JVC AM/FM/CD/Pandora head unit.
There are a lot of other nice features on this truck. The Ranger trim, lined bed with toolbox, sound deadener, power front disc brakes, Rough Country shocks, Rancho steering stabilizers, and more. The price reflects the few needs to make it complete. The paint could use a final wet sand and buff, the oil and fuel gauges are not connected, and the intermediate parking brake cable is not installed. It also needs tires due to sidewall cracking. Still, these are small items when you consider what went into the build. You could not duplicate this F150 for anywhere near this price, especially with the rising prices of 70’s pickups.
