Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1963 Ford Falcon Futura
coupe. This is one of the most unexpected builds we have seen, and
it has not only a killer look but really good performance and
driving dynamics. This build started with a straight and rust-free
Falcon; the body was sanded down to bare metal then clear coated,
and the trim was blacked out. With performance in mind, unnecessary
weight was stripped out and custom interior panels were fabricated;
while spartan, the interior has a clean and finished look with
racing buckets, five-point harnesses and new Autometer gauges.
Under the hood is a 351 Windsor stroked to 418 cubic inches - it
features a forged crank and pistons, H-beam connecting rods, Dart
Machinery aluminum heads, Edlebrock intake with performance carb
and a Spectre performance cold-air intake. Cooling is aided by an
electric water pump, aluminum radiator and electric fan. Custom
headers are mated to big (i.e. loud!) exhaust. Power is delivered
through a TKO500 five-speed, aluminum driveshaft and limited slip
rear end with 3.73 gearing. We are confident in making the claim
that this is the strongest Ford small block build that we have ever
driven.
While straight-line performance is (really) impressive, what's
unexpected is how well this car turns and stops. It's rare that we
get into a muscle car, even most pro-touring builds, that are so
confidence inspiring as a whole package. Steering is tight and
quick but not over-boosted and actually has feedback thanks to a
rack and pinion setup in a custom front subframe. The suspension
(adjustable coilovers/MacPherson strut setup with an adjustable
4-link rear end, reinforced shock towers, camber boxes, big sway
bars, subframe connectors) is stiff but feels well balanced and
properly dialed in. And they actually got the brakes right - the
big disks on all four corners are fed by a Willwood master. We see
big brake and disk brake setups all the time but few of them are so
perfectly matched to the build that you feel confident in threshold
braking. The Vintage Wheel Works 17-inch alloy wheels are wearing
sticky BFGs. This is one of the few American muscle car builds that
we have driven that we would want to take to a road course track
day.
If you are looking for something out of the ordinary with an
awesome look and the performance to back it up then this Falcon
fits the bill. It would be difficult duplicate this build for the
asking price and it was just serviced by the owner's mechanic so it
should be ready to roll for the next caretaker.
