After World War II, many manufacturers were reestablishing their
identity, and Ford was not different with the decision to combine
their mid-luxury line Mercury and upscale Lincoln brands becoming
one division in 1945. The Mercury marque went from a sophisticated
and well-appointed Ford, to a market sensation by 1949 distinctly
separating itself from Ford and Lincoln. Fast forward to 1954 and
you will see the first year introduction of the Overhead Valve V8
replacing the flathead forever. That same year, Mercury rolled out
a special Hardtop model in their upscale Monterey body called the
Sun Valley. It featured a unique Plexiglas roof and attractive
body trim, with a host of available options making it the most
expensive model they offered next to the convertible. Only 9,761
were produced, and finding one in this condition presents a
wonderful opportunity to Mercury collectors everywhere! We are
proud to offer this gorgeous 1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley
2-door Hardtop finished in factory code correct Bloomfield Green &
Parkland Green two tone exterior over green & white vinyl interior!
Fitted with its original 256ci OHV V8 offering the driver 161
horsepower mated to the 3-speed Merc-O-Matic automatic
transmission. Additional factory options include power steering,
power drum brakes, rear fender skirts, front & rear bumper guards,
full chrome wheel covers, wide whitewall tires, clock,
heater/defrost, twin exit stainless steel exhaust system, tinted
window glass, AM radio with rear seat speaker, and the famous glass
roof insert! Coming from a very well maintained collection, this
very original and well preserved example has benefited from a
thorough and accurate restoration. The overall finish remains in
greatcondition, with chrome and stainless in excellent condition.
It shows no signed of abuse or neglect, with minimal signs of age
everywhere you look. Today, the odometer reads just 77,622 miles
which we believe to be accurate from new. The window glass and
roof top Plexiglas remain brilliantly clear and few of commonly
found scratches. Inside, the seating upholstery, dash, door
panels, and carpet are all wonderfully presentable and show
worthy. The same can be said for the engine bay presentation and
trunk compartment with correct, factory appointments like it was
just on the showroom just a few years ago. More importantly, it
starts and runs simply wonderfully! It offers easy starts, smooth
idle and remarkable road worthiness. We hope this rare Mercury
finds a new home quickly as there are very few like it to choose
from on today's market place! Please feel welcome to call with
additional questions! Thanks for looking!
