Vehicle Description
Featuring an eye-catching color combo and powerful drivetrain, this
1996 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is not only a very appealing
ride, but also has some serious historical significance. It proudly
stands as the last offering of Corvette's Fourth Generation - a
class that became known for its inspired style and engineering and
served Chevy well for a dozen years - and will pull into its next
lucky owner's garage with a clean history report in tow.
As the 1996 model year was approaching, Chevy decided to mark the
occasion by giving its well-respected fourth generation Corvettes a
proper send off and created a commemorative model for the occasion:
the Grand Sport. This specimen benefits from a number of styling
cues featured exclusively on this special edition, including its
Admiral blue color with the broad white stripe running the length
of its hood and deck lid, and the pair of red hash marks decorating
its driver side fender. Fourth generation 'Vettes were renowned for
their sleek, modern shape, which is very much in evidence here -
stylistically speaking, this just doesn't look like a model that
greeted the public more than 20 years ago. Its T-top configuration
is a great plus, offering you the chance to easily transition from
open air motoring to a more insulated experience with noticeably
less wind noise than you'd experience with a more conventional
vinyl drop top. The vibrant color is a great highlight to this
Corvette's aerodynamic form, drawing you in closer to see a car
that's also still well-aligned and very road-ready in
appearance.
Fittingly, for a car universally known as one of the few true
American sports cars, the interior is noticeably "driver-centric" -
though your willing passengers will also be happy with its array of
creature comforts. The red leather bucket seats have integrated
head rests and are bolstered for strong support while carving
corners - an activity that will almost certainly make its way into
your daily routine with this 'Vette. Climb into the driver's seat
and that short-throw shifter sits within very easy reach, beckoning
you to put this beauty through its paces. Whether it's a jaunt
through a canyon or more routine motoring, your comfort and
convenience will be looked after, with air conditioning that's in
good form, cruise control, a tilt column, and power seats, windows
and door locks. An AM/FM/CD/cassette system sits in the dash to
cover your audio needs. Driver and passenger side airbags afford an
added measure of safety should the unforeseen happen. Everything
looks straight and clean in back, and you'll likely be left with
the impression that there's more storage space behind the seats
than you would have expected.
While it's been more than 20 years since this Chevy rolled off the
line, it's seen only about 56,000 miles, and one of the key
beneficiaries of that light usage is its strong and smooth-running
drivetrain. A 5.7-liter LT4 V8 sits underneath the hood as its
foundation. Good for 340 horsepower, it fires right up, runs with
all the smoothness you'd look for in a frequent driver and is
paired with a 6-speed manual transmission to provide a great
driving experience. This great example of the Corvette's proud
automotive legacy rides on a set of special-edition, black 17"
Grand Sport wheels, outfitted with Nitto NT tires.
