Vehicle Description
With just shy of 9400 miles logged and a clean history report to
bear proof that it's avoided any collisions of note, this 2004
Mercury Marauder is both well-equipped and in top condition. It
combines a few very effective modifications to go along with its
great, understated looks, making it a great find for someone
looking for a tastefully unique take on the American full-sized
car.
Marauders actually have a long history, dating back all the way to
the early '60s, but the name plate remained dormant until just one
year before this one came out. Its revival marked a drastic
departure from the norm, as it was the first full-size Mercury
introduced in more than 40 years that didn't have a Ford
counterpart, so its designers at Mercury wanted to make a strong,
yet tasteful visual statement as it re-emerged, and they clearly
succeeded. Because the only chrome you'll find on the car is on the
window trim, wheels and grille and trunk lid badges, this Mercury
was gifted as it left the assembly line with a distinct,
after-market-looking appearance. Black exteriors are often a
high-risk proposition, as they tend to show every mishap and
imperfection in glaring fashion. No such worries here, as this
Mercury looks great from all angles, with no obvious blemishes to
distract from its strong shine and even coloring that sits under a
great clearcoat. From all indications, it's led a sheltered life,
as evidenced by its clear glass, very clean trim and headlights
that don't even begin to show any oxidation.
A combination of great comfort features and great condition make
this black leather interior one seriously inviting environment.
Clearly, it hasn't been victimized by any passengers lighting up
inside, and even has that coveted "new car" smell. The heated
bucket seats up front are very comfortable and opulently padded,
and the bench seat in back features a fold down armrest. Both show
only light wear, with no undue wrinkling or cracks on their
surfaces. The dash area is a great blend of stock and aftermarket
components, as a pair of ProComp gauges reside below an AM/FM/CD
player to complement their white-faced counterparts in the
instrument cluster. Post-2000 cars generally have a decided
advantage over their predecessors in the features department, and
this Marauder is no exception, as it comes with power windows,
power seats, power locks, cruise control and remote-opening doors
to go along with air conditioning that's in fine form. The
gray-lined trunk area is also in great shape, securely harboring a
spare tire on its shelf with plenty of luggage room left over.
The 4.6 liter 32 valve DOHC V8 you'll find under the hood is a
great representative of the same engine you'll find in the Mustang
Cobra of this era. A K&N cold air intake has been added to
maximize airflow to a power plant that's running in top form - it
starts right up and pulls with all the power you'd want as it
exhales into a pair of Cook's headers. Outfitted with power disc
brakes on all four corners, this Marauder can also stop as
impressively as it accelerates. This stylish post millennial sedan
rides on a set of polished 18" wheels that are wrapped with Nitto
NT555 tires.
