Vehicle Description
Ever since the first Corvette debuted nearly 65 years ago, they've
enjoyed a heralded status befitting one of the very few true
American sports car models ever produced. Z06s, with their enhanced
engines and upgraded brakes, upped the ante on that cool factor
when they were introduced as an option package a decade later. This
2003 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, with great looks and substantial power
to go along with its clean history report, encapsulates all that's
so special about this premium performance car nameplate.
Coming along toward the conclusion of the fifth generation of
Corvettes, this 2003 is the refined product of what had been some
of Corvette's most marked design changes. Its lowered stance,
relatively wide track and aerodynamic shape not only provide it
with great handling and an unusually low drag coefficient, but with
a signature "performance-centric" identity, as well. Although it's
not raised in back, its conformation - which features substantial
and inclined rear fenders - gives this Corvette the appearance that
it's coiled and poised to strike, and you can easily picture air
flowing smoothly over its sleek shape during wind tunnel testing.
Its electron blue is a winning color for this automotive icon, as
it's an original shade, but one with a sort of aftermarket flash to
it and, combined with its nice, even clearcoat, carries a great
shine. Hidden headlights were a defining feature on Vettes of this
era and these are in good form, raising up when called upon, but
sitting nice and flush when off duty.
Corvettes became known over the years for their aeronautically
inspired cockpits, and the black leather environment you'll see
inside certainly holds true to that heritage. The high-backed
bucket seats have the comfort you'd want for routine driving, yet
enough bolstered support to keep you firmly in place while
cornering. They straddle a very functional center console that has
a bevy of well-placed controls, as well as an AM/FM/CD player. Just
below, the low-profile shifter sits within very easy grasp and,
combined with the 'Vette's smooth clutch action, makes for an easy
run through the gears. All the comfort features you'd want are
inside, including power windows, power locks, power seats, air
conditioning that blows cold and strong, cruise control and an
anti-theft system - certainly welcome in a car as attention getting
as this one is. Just beyond the stock steering wheel, the dash area
is in great shape, with no tears on the pad above, and its
assortment of gauges very clear as they glow in their cluster. Dual
air bags provide an added measure of safety in the event of a
collision. The trunk area in back is looking clean, with no serious
wear or discolorations marring its carpeted floor.
Underneath the lengthy hood sits an LS6 V8. Featuring electronic
fuel injection, as well as an aluminum block and heads, its 346
cubic inches puts out 405 horsepower - as Chevy added an additional
20 just a year earlier. It's mated with a 6-speed transmission to
provide excellent acceleration - on a par with most of its premium
counterparts from overseas. Having been well-maintained and
relatively lightly used, with only about 70,000 logged during its
nearly 15 years of service, the drivetrain remains in good shape
and fires right up. Armed with power disc brakes carrying sizable
rotors for optimal heat dissipation, this 'Vette can stop in
impressively short order when called upon to do so.
