A classic British roadster
The first TR series roadsters were a revelation when they appeared
in 1953. Boasting performance that was on par with the more
expensive Austin-Healey 100 and exceptional handling, Triumph took
the sports car market by storm. With affordability that was
competitive with the much slower MG TD, Triumph continued to
improve upon the basic formula, introducing the TR3 in 1955. It was
the first mass-production sports car to feature front disc brakes
and was available for purchase with a number of options that made
it a formidable competitor on the race or rally circuit. Although
not an official designation, the TR3A that debuted in late 1957
proved to be Triumph’s most popular model ever, thanks to its best
in class performance, legendary reliability and stout construction.
A full classic, this is a fine representative of an iconic sports
car.
The Motorcar Offered
This TR3A was built January 30, 1959 and shipped to the United
States not long afterwards. Originally finished in powder blue over
beige leather, this pristine example was subjected to a complete
nut-and-bolt restoration only 1000 miles ago to the highest
standard. At that time it received a colour change to a darker
shade of blue that is more fitting to the car’s masculine nature.
From the interior to the engine compartment, everything is as it
should be, including details such as decals and metal finish.
Equipped from new with an occasional rear seat, this delightful
roadster represents the best of a proud breed and is sure to dazzle
at the next All British Field Meet.
Estimate: $27,000-30,000
