1929 Ford Model A Shay
Roadster
Low-mile classic hot rod built on modern
platform
2.8L V-6 Engine
4-speed automatic
transmission
The Shay Motor Company was established in 1978 with a factory
located in Battle Creek Michigan. The rare circumstance where a
replica was sold through the manufacturer of the vehicle copied, it
was sold at authorized Ford dealers and carried a complete factory
warranty. The original plan was to offer replicas of several famous
Ford models, but financial problems limited production to the Model
A and T-Bird. Built upon a modern chassis with running gear sourced
from the Ford parts bin, this was a far more capable automobile
than the original.
The Motorcar Offered The consignor purchased
this example from the original owner in Southern California with
only 3,600 miles on the odometer. An inveterate tinkerer, the new
owner immediately set out to create an iconic hot rod using the
factory authorized replica as a foundation. A 2.8-liter Cologne V-6
and automatic transmission from a Mustang II replaced the original
4-cylinder engine for better performance, which were also rebuilt
completely prior to installation. Inside, tuck and roll upholstery
and a custom steering wheel add period authenticity with a heater
for the rumble seat and AM/FM radio adding to the creature
comforts. Oversized rolling stock and old school hubcaps help fill
out the wheel arches, while the body was painted in gloss black
with tricolour flames. No expense was spared during the
construction of this magnificent hot rod and the modern
underpinnings promise performance and handling to match the iconic
appearance.
Estimate: $25,000-28,000
