Vehicle Description
For years, Steve Saleen was the brains behind most of Ford's
fastest cars, both on and off the track. And the street cars were
pretty spectacular, including machines like this 2000 Saleen
Mustang with a long list of factory upgrades. Big power,
eyeball-flattening cornering, and a unique look all added up to a
near-perfect package that delivers real world performance without
compromises.
There was no mistaking this for anything but a Saleen, which takes
the Mustang and elevates it to an entirely new level. The body kit
is a big part of it, with the Saleen DNA readily apparent, and when
it's as well-preserved as this nasty black Mustang, and comes
complete with all the right documents, well, it's easy to see why
these cars are still so highly cherished by their owners. Always a
sunny-day cruiser and never a daily driver, it was repainted about
six years ago using Spies-Hecker Black Pearl, and aside from a few
minor signs of use, it looks amazing. The Mustang's shape was
augmented by Saleen-specific components like the front air dam,
side skirts, and rear wing, along with a Cobra hood and Mach 1
grille delete kit, just in case you didn't know you were looking at
something special. Overall condition is very good considering the
mileage, and it's obvious that someone lavished a lot of attention
on this aggressive pony. Fortunately, those looks are more than
skin deep.
The beautiful tan leather interior was left largely stock by
Saleen's engineers, but why change an already excellent driving
environment? The most notably upgrade is a set of two-tone leather
Recaro bucket seats, which are a natural fit in the Mustang's
driver's compartment. The leather shows only modest signs of use,
most notably on the driver's outer bolster where it sees the most
traffic. Carpets have been protected from day one by a set of
Saleen floor mats, and aluminum pedals make this car a wonderful
dance partner. Saleen added their own white-faced gauges to the
Ford instrument panel, along with a special pod up top for the
supercharger's vitals. The only other upgrade is an Alpine AM/FM/CD
stereo system in the original radio's location. In the trunk you'll
find the original mat and spare tire.
Saleen's biggest modifications are under the skin, where you get a
supercharged and intercooled 4.6 liter SOHC V8 with an upgraded
Series IV twin-screw Whipple supercharger. Other factory upgrades
include an upgraded ignition system, cold air intake, and JBA
ceramic headers. The engine and transmission were replaced under
warranty (paperwork included) and the car is seriously fast even
today. Saleen Mustangs also received handling improvements thanks
to custom Racecraft springs and shocks and fat sway bars fore and
aft. A factory Torsen limited slip and 3.55 gears work beautifully
with the 5-speed manual to make this a car that you can drive every
day and cruise cross-country or do a track session without a second
thought. A rumbling Flowmaster exhaust system and X-pipe give the
blown V8 a fantastic soundtrack and this sucker is seriously clean
underneath. Custom Saleen alloy wheels round out the package and
wear 18-inch performance radials.
Nicely documented, loaded with options, and still wearing its
original 00-764 Saleen serial number, this is a great chance to
join the special group of Saleen owners. Call today!
